The Wario Land series is one I hold dear to my heart; I go back and replay WL3 or WL4 every other year

My first was 3, then I played the rest of the GB entries, then 4, Shake It!, and lastly the Virtual Boy entry.
That WL2 stage with the snake - setting aside the obvious for a moment - is pretty important from a gameplay perspective since it’s the first (main path) boss that can teach you how ‘losing’ works; you get harmlessly kicked out of the boss room, but having that happen is one of two ways to get to the treasure and secret exit, the other requiring a loosely marked breakable floor. In other words… the snake actually helps you out a lot as a new player??? Surely this had no impact on me…
If you liked 2, then 3 builds on a lot of it, so you might like that too! Should definitely try WL4 as well; more or less the apotheosis of the whole series. WL4 has the speedy feel of VB which itself improved on 1, then mix that with the linear-exploration design of 2, all with the depth of 3 and an outstanding amount of audiovisual style! It’s one of the best platformers I’ve played, and certainly one of the best titles the GBA has to offer in general. Even has a very solid romhack in ‘Parallel World’!

Ayo, thanks for sharing your journey through the series - definitely gotta check it all out!
That's some thoughtful game design! Surely anyone capable of finding the secrets before the boss wouldn't have trouble with it in the first place, and those who'd manage to get caught areeither weirdos or benefited from the reveal that losing isn't an instant game over.
Glad to know WL4 pieced together the good parts of its predecessors, seems to justify why I hear about it much more than the others! Personally know someone who really loves WL4 too, so definitely gotta ask if they're aware of the romhack - thanks for bringing it up!

and because there’s a secret exit you also end up visiting that level more than once!! The alibi for ulterior motives is pretty strong here
yeah, WL4 Parallel World is practically official quality; lovingly made by a speedrunner very savvy with 4’s inner workings alongside some cool stuff honoring the previous titles too
