I´ll explain each step and If you have any questions I´ll be glad to answer :)
1.- Rough Sketch (concept, idea)
2.- Inks at this point I have an idea of more or less where I want the lights to be, I didn´t add much detail because I was thinking of doing it with color, this allows me to work faster, the problem comes when the person who inks does all the lights wrong or suggests different light sourcess then you have to make guess work. An example of that is Joe Madureira who gives like 2 or 3 light sourcess, way too intimidating.
3.- Flat, professional flats for coloring are done with lasso tool, no feather, no anti alias, no tolerance on all selection tools as well as paint bucket, opacity 100% doesn´t matter what color you use as it will be cover by a desaturated grayish color as you can see on step 4.
4.- I start with backgrounds because from there I know how to color the character where is the light source and which colors are around.
5.- character, now that I know more or less where the light is coming from everything else is easier now.
6.- effects over lineart not under.
7.- ????
8.- profit

It's cool to see your process, even though to me it's still just "magic." XD I could look at all the guides in the world and never work out how you manage such beautiful composition.
What exact purpose does the flat coloring phase serve? Is it just to get an idea of where colors are going to be different?
