Despite what the myths say, in the majority of cases it won't be the Pumpkin Queen herself who arrives to defend the homes of mortals on Halloween night. Even with her immense power, she cannot be in two places at the same time.
When a Gourdian raises the alarm to report a monster encroaching on a protected mortal habitat, the call will usually be answered by a Gourdsman such as this one. As the Pumpkin Queen's elite soldiers, even a single Gourdsman is more than capable of dispatching an entire horde of low-tier monsters by itself.
This allows Queen Jackol'en to reserve her appearances solely for the calls which she deems worthy of her attention. She will typically arrive to fend off the strongest of monsters that the Gourdsmen couldn't handle, and she may also answer the call if the mortals she's summoned to protect interest her enough to demand a soul tithe from as payment for her protection.
