Last year I drew a 'Snorse' (Snake-Horse) in a MLP-like-style, but was never really happy with the drawing, so now a year later decided to do it again and draw it more in my own style which I feel looks a lot better!
Anyway the Snorse comes from a Magic the Gathering card 'Jolene, Plundering Pugilist' and it's in the background, just something about this silly creature just really made me want to draw an 'MLP' version of it and that's how we ended up here.
I imagine Snorse's to be desert dwelling communicatees that prefer to not be bothered by other creature races (Their is also a communities of Snores that live in the jungle but they are rarely seen so most people forget that their around). Though this is mainly because most creatures when they first see them tend to flee in terror, so after many failed interactions they decided they would rather be left alone than bother trying to reach out to other creatures.
While I do imagine that Snorse's do have venom (They can spit it like a cobra), its rarely used, but when it is, its for defence, they don't use it for hunting purposes, but for when they need to fend the herd from the terrible beasts that roam their desert home. I also imagine their own kind are generally immune to the venom (and other poisons), but it will still cause a lot of damage if a stray shot hits them in the eyes (Causing Temporary blindness) This is why among Snorses communities their kids are not allowed to leave the safety of the village until they are properly trained on how to shoot their venom.
Quick Snorse's notes
While they are called 'Snorses' they don't have ounce of horse heritage, they are more closely related to dragons
Snorse's lay eggs, generally only having one child/egg a season as their eggs are rather large, but twins/siblings do happen among their species though their survival rate is much lower.
Snorse's are mostly meat eater's, but are fine with adding herbs/spices to their meals (Though its hard to get their hooves on such rare ingredients, Snorse's will pay a lot to get some spices)
Snorse's do Brumate during the winter months, so their homes are a mix of burrow structures that are really well inforced, built like a fortress as they are very big on making sure they are safe during this vulnerable time.
Because they brumate during the winter months they pickle their food for storage, so that when they wake up again they'll have food nearby to eat as they 'recover' from their deep 'sleep'
This has lend to them having a festive celebration, so before they go into Brumation and then, when they awake after, It's considered a celebration of 'life' and that they have defeated 'death' of winter by reawakening in spring.
Snorse's are immune to petrification, hence why they have a domesticated species of Cockatrice that they farm meat and eggs from.
They let the Cockatrice's roam during their brumation period and collect them again in the spring. So theirs a festive 'hunt' to track down the Cockatrice's when they awake and the one who finds the most will received a tasty prize (I haven't figured out what kinds of meat's they would have but it would be something that they hunted before Winter, pickled/persevered somehow and is considered a big treat to eat among their people.
