“Girls!” I hear my wife call up the stairs from just outside our bedroom. “We need to leave soon so we’re not late to meet Aunt Mer!” I chuckle as I run black lipstick across my lips. I step back, looking over my green and black costume before capping the lipstick and walking out of the room.
Jazzy locks eyes with me and they immediately widen. “Wow!” she says with a smile as she looks me up and down.
I walk up to her as I say, “Can I call you, beep you, if I want to reach you?” I toss some of her hair over her shoulder before whispering, “Even villains need a hero’s help from time to time.”
“I think Shego needs to go to the bedroom once we get home and see what Kim Possible is really capable of,” Jazzy whispers back. I lick my lips and raise an eyebrow before stealing a quick kiss. I rest my hand on my wife’s bare midriff, hers coming to rest right on top, our fingers intertwining. She is the first to pull away before whispering, “Happy Halloween.”
“Happy Halloween,” I say with a smile. We both look toward the stairs as giggles grow louder and a ringmaster and mad scientist emerge. They race down the stairs before coming to a stop in front of us.
“We’re ready!” little ringmaster, Arizona, says as she holds up hers and Raelyn’s candy buckets.
“Well then,” Jazzy says, putting her hands on her hips, “Ringmaster Zo and Dr. Rae, let’s head out!” I open the door as the two girls run giggling out to the car and we follow suit.
“Well look at you guys all dressed up!” Meredith says as she walks out to the end of her driveway, Dr. Ellis Grey-Shepherd in tow. “You guys really went all out! Kim Possible and Shego, right?”
“I’m a ringmaster!” Arizona says, standing up proudly.
“And I’m a mad scientist!” Raelyn squeals.
“I see that!” Meredith says with a smile.
“And what are you supposed to be?” I ask with an eyebrow raised, noticing Meredith’s lack of a costume.
“Super mom!” Meredith says turning around. “See my cape? It was literally all I had time to do.”
“Honestly the only reason we had time for this was because Jazzy had a couple of optional planning days to go get all of our costumes,” I say with a chuckle.
“Can we go trick or treating now?” Ellis says, tugging on her mom’s hand.
“I say let’s go!” I call out as the girls cheer.
Around 11pm that night, we pull back into our driveway. We carefully unload now heavy buckets of candy and our sleepy ringmaster and scientist. We tuck the girls into bed still in their costumes, too tired to change them into pajamas. We make our way back downstairs and wind down by sorting through the candy in the buckets, picking out our favorites. Jazzy and I stay up far too late but I can’t help but smile. There is no place I would rather be than here.
