I'm sure that London will be able to overcome this, at least if they were able to do so in South Africa after those Xenophobic riots the year before the last World Cup.

Right now, though, this looks even more frightening than Vancouver, with that hit-and-run that just happened. Seeing that video of the Malaysian student getting robbed from his napsack while bleeding just pissed me off.

Thank you for your comment. Events like this will always have their iconic images, such as the robbery which you mention. That, however, is not the true image of London. The city's true image is in the people out on the streets, the shopkeepers and volunteers (and even the Mayor yesterday in Croydon) clearing away the debris, and vowing that the city will return to normality.

I too am confident that the city and the country will see this through. Little over three months ago, London held one of its largest celebrations in a generation with the Royal Wedding; and next year, we are welcoming the world to the Olympic Games. That shows the spirit and the resolve which London, and Great Britain, are capable of.
