Happy Halloween Everyone!!
Welcome to another anthology of horror and mirth as I release another Doghouse of Horror onto my unwilling public.
And in case you weren't subjected to the cheesiness already: here is the 13th entry from last year:
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/58691334/
A noteworthy mention in the title card is the fact that 2025 marks the 15th anniversary of TUFF Puppy. It has been off the air for a long time now but we should still celebrate how fans have kept it's spirit going for that long. I will never forget how a friend of mine
introduced to me. From there I create the OC Lady Malmsteen and the rest is history.
Lady Malmsteen herself is holding a 15th Anniversary Gala celebrating the show; even if she never actually was on the actual show. She is dancing with the vampire version of Dudley Count Dudula; who she hypnotized into thinking he was one. She also hypnotized Kitty Katswell dancing like a mindless puppet alongside the mummy Bastest...AKA Bessy. They appear to be doing a 'Walk Like an Egyptian' dance. In the background three other characters Le Noir, Ringu and Anubis (Nuby) are doing another 80's dance more Halloween themed: the Thriller dance!!
Dancing with Keswick is the banshee Jennifer McDullahan. She's in her normal pretty form but Keswick anticipates she will turn into her more hellish form soon. Something he dreads and this could set the stage for a future Doghouse story in another entry in the not-too-distant future.
Twirling the two headed stitched together bunny girl Trish Lexia around is a Frankenbunny....or Frankenbunny Monster.....or Dr. Frankenbunny's Monster....or whatever....:P
The Trish half is having fun but the Lexia portion isn't.
The placard describes the TUFF Puppy 15th Anniversary gala as well as the fact Doghouse of Horror 14 is playing too....and that viewing is MANDATORY by decree of The Lady. She's too busy dancing with Dudula right now to hold the film reel. Perhaps that gag doesn't need any further inclusion. Consider the 15th anniversary of the show a good stopping point for that.
On the subject; next year will be the 15th Anniversary of Doghouse of Horror. I got something VERY special planned for that....but I will reveal it much later.
Onto the tales:
The first story uses the pun 'Katswellvania' that I first adopted in Doghouse of Horror X. It's obviously a pun on the video game franchise 'Castlevania.' But it's taking it a step further making a pun of the direct sequel on NES 'Simon's Quest.' It is called 'Simon's Questionable Quest'.....and 'Katswellvania III' is an inevitability: trust me.
The Simon here is the PUFF (Paranormal Undercover Fighting Force) Agent Simon Belmutt. He's basically if Dudley Puppy was a Belmont. And Kitty Katswell is assigned to work with him instead of the more competent agent Felina Fatalis (PUFF's own version of Kitty Katswell.)
It must be an assignment related to vampires as that is the Belmutt specialty. But he's not a very competent Belmont. Unlike Netflix Castlevania he certainly won't grow as one...and it nowhere near as badass. Kitty also has to deal with Petsylvania's creeps as she is attacked by red demons and zombie hands....one of which grabbed her boot. Simon remains totally oblivious to this.
Yes...Once again this is the Captain N version of Simon Belmont and it was intentional. That guy was also a doofus and a narcissistic one at that. Our Simon here also had way cooler ancestors. Kitty might've preferred working with them if they were still around. And what is the ultimate goal of this quest? It remains Questionable doesn't it??
I'm not saying what Katswellvania III is about just yet but it is in the back of my mind.
The second story is a take on Disney's Coco. Well more or less that it is Day of the Dead themed and involves our main hero befriending some skeletal denizens. Dudley in this case has entered their world after his untimely demise...but according to the keepers of this realm he wasn't suppose to arrive yet. He is then escorted by three other spectres: a female foxy version of La Muerte name La Vulpe...an Aztec looking snake that simply calls himself Q....an allusion to the serpent god Quetzalquotl (and James Bond) and finally a deceased luche libre wrestler named El Toro Rojo which literally means 'The Red Bull.' I am more or less referring to the energy drink but you could also attribute it to the antagonistic force from The Last Unicorn.
The idea Dudley was also not supposed to be dead and gets a shot at coming back to life is also the beginning plot to the series Yu Yu Hakusho. While I don't think this will bring him back as a Spirit Detective; he would return back as a regular Secret Agent.....and still an incompetent one.
The designs of these day of the dead denizens were fun to make. La Vulpe's design was more or less inspired by La Muerte's design from Book of Life more so than Coco. The idea of a serpent god alluding to Quetzalcoatl also alludes to the mystic Aztec mythology both Coco and Book of Life alluded to....but more so Book of Life with Xibalba. And El Toro Rojo's wrestler design was fun and of course it had to be a bull! Hehas a relative BTW who became a film maker....Yes in TUFF Puppy Guillermo del Toro is a literal bull. XD
A scene involving Dudley Puppy's spirit visiting his mom also prompts the memorable line describing how long TUFF Puppy lasted: three seasons!! Another nod to it's 15th Anniversary beyond it's initial batch of episodes.
Finally the third story is the overdue tribute to the "Greatest Horror Movie" ever!!......Well the most infamous. I do consider it one of my favorite films of all time too. This film of course is Stanley Kubrick's 'The Shining.' This film has influenced SO many people that it's probably as scary as the movie itself. Inspiring a movie about it's "Hidden Meanings" to most prominent online critics listing the Treehouse of Horror V episode of the Simpson with it's 'Shinning' parody as the best one.
The 15th anniversary of TUFF Puppy finally takes on it's own parody of the monumental film. But the title 'The Snappening' actually references an unrelated movie: 'The Happening.' The story here borrows no elements from that film and was only used to make this story about Verminious Snaptrap going crazier than usual.
Crazy to the point that Larry isn't the only member of DOOM he wants to actively harm or even kill. DOOM arrives at an abandoned hotel....much like The Overlook.....and the place really takes a toll on Snaptrap's fragile sanity. Not only are his plan getting crazier and stupider than usual...but through the hotel's vile influence he even starts treating his closest friends Ollie like Larry terribly.
Things get so bad that the famous "Here's Johnny!!" scene is reinnacted. Only it's "Here's Snappy!!" Ollie and Larry have a bat and a knife respectively to try and ward him off. These were both weapons Wendy Torrance used to ward off Jack Torrance in the movie....and they were fairly effective.
Larry also mentions it wouldn't be right to continue that iconic scene without Snaptrap saying that iconic line.
Another Doghouse of Horror ends. Sometimes it takes longer to type this out than to draw it. So I will end it here.
Happy 15th Anniversary TUFF Puppy! And happy upcoming 15th Anniversary Doghouse of Horror next year!

Another wonderful Halloween to celebrate the Lady's birthday, and she's still gonna learn the hard way of how Dud-ula turned out to be more than she bargained for, but until then, she's in charge as the host. Kitty is looking funny enough just doing the Egyptian dance with Bessy (from one kitty to another), while Anubis is groovin' well with Ringu Suzuki and Le Noir. Hoo boy, Keswick! It's enough that he was once scared of girls until Tammy came into his life, but methinks that fear is gonna resurface when Jennifer McDullahan goes into full banshee mode, sooner or later, while Trish Lexia is being cute as ever with their dance partner.
Quite the hilarious trilogy of films for this year with Kitty learning the hard way about Simon Belmutt being just as moronic as Dudley (to say nothing of his egotistical narcissistic views of himself). You're in for a LONG night, Kitty. Coco Loco, great use of the song in the original film, and not often we get Day of the Dead, but it's amusing enough how Dudley has that chance, while you did brilliant with the faint skeletal look that's taking him. And one cannot go wrong with a horror work like Stephen King to give us Snaptrap, just when we thought he couldn't go more insane, we get this. Ollie and Larry, you probably were better off just staying back in Petropolis. On the bright side, Larry, no shark tank.
Happy Halloween, bro, and much love to the Lady, forever. <3

This year's Doghouse Of Horror anthology is definitely quite nice and enjoyable for sure, and Simon Belmutt is definitely one of my favorite characters you've created due to the fact that he's also based on cartoon version of Simon Belmont from "Captain N: The Game Master"! ^^
