In the subtropics of northern Tyvra, the climate undulates between extremely wet and dry. Few crops are able to tolerate the climatic extremes and poor oxisols of this region. In spite of these conditions, the Rajahnthan class of crops are cultivated for their rich red dye, large fragrant flowers, edible seed pods, mucilaginous sap, and long fibrous stalks. With careful selection, the Akuvy developed numerous Rajahntha varieties specialized to their various utilities. True to their name, nearly all cultivars bear brilliant frilly flowers with vibrant red or pink pigment.
