What's more embarrassing than getting turned into a book and having your every thought be available for anyone to pick up and read? Having your own mama pick it up and leaf through to see if you ever paid attention to her warning about exactly this sort of scenario? It's amazing Spunky isn't blushing even more than that.
Also I figured for once to depict the scene as not Spunky's fault for ignoring his Mama's good advice. In her defense, though, he didn't suspect that the old haunted paper mill might be trouble? Has he paid no attention this past ... entire life of his? But, you know, props to Mama for apologizing because I don't see how you can expect a kid to respect you if you don't own up to your mistakes.
In the comics Spunky's mother wears white gloves or none at all, depending on if the artist forgot she had them this issue. (I'm pretty sure they never had a model sheet for these characters.) I thought I'd try something more lavender to look a little more motherly, and did it work? Or was it just different? I'm not sure. But there was a fun experimental time trying out different colors to see if I had something that didn't clash with her basic colors too much.
I don't know why Mama talks so stiffly here but it felt right.
I really like that curve from Mama's belly to her legs. It is from some actual canonical comic book but I forget which one.
