This Halloween piece was inspired after watching Matthew Bourne's awesome revisioning of the Sleeping Beauty ballet; his take on the story is very dark and very gothic - even the good fairies feel kind of sinister, and much more vampire-ish. Instead of politely showing up to give their gifts at Aurora's christening, they come creeping into her nursery in the dead of night, and - most importantly - they wear lots of heavy eye-makeup, that makes them look like - yes - raccoons. Once again you never know where inspiration may strike.
