i usually pick rat names from this site http://www.behindthename.com/ most commonly norse or greek mythos names (this little fella looks like an Odin to me for some reason)
Beowulf, Beo for short or... or... Beelzebub, Beelz or Beezle for short (beelzebub is the devil). >.>
I have used german/dutch/that area... words. One of my rats Sterrin means star in German, Elend(eeland) means misery/doubt in Dutch or German cant remember, he was an adoption and was very skittish for a while. Leeden which means Trouble in German(my rat at 3 weeks old found a small hole in my wall and was stuck in there for about 5 hours before we got him back.
I also have rats named after constelations like Orion, Sirius and Saiph
