Baby Shadi with her mom Zareen, during the happiest period of her life. Zareen was a basket weaver, and Shadi learned quite a bit of the trade herself, before her mother was sold by their owner (both were slaves / serfs). Shadi has been searching for her mother ever since, and that is pretty much the premise of her whole story.
This is how Shadi learned how weave her own slings, by the way, and she uses her knowledge in the most destructive ways possible :P

That's a really, really cute one. She is adorable!
However, can't help but feel slightly sad at being the "happiest" moment of her life. Basically meant that throughout her life and enjoy story, she never really makes it to be fully happy no matter how much she fights, grows as a character, or improves her life and philosophy.
Shadi really is a bittersweet character.

Thank you so much! :D
Oh, I meant more as "Happiest period of her life until NOW", meaning the stage of her life I usually focus on. Her life will get much better and she'll be happy again eventually (even happier actually), but it will take a while to get there!
Poor girl has been through a lot!

Now, making 'Cordage'? For traps, slings (As you mentioned), other binding needs? That, I HAVE mastered, given suitable foliage or cured leather!

Yes, but Shadi and Zareen were more like serfs, tied to the land belonging to a local feudal lord. They had a house and a business, and had to pay taxes. Even though they had no chains or anything, they still belonged to local lord just as much as the fields and cattle did, and were forced to wear a welded collar to avoid escape attempts.
What a pretty scene. I love the lineart.
