As they ever did without a place to call home, the Ensouled scarecrow Harvest and his Sworn Brother Toma were always wandering to and fro on the Ealasian continent, known as heroes of their new generation despite Harvest's frankly unsettling appearance as a scythe-wielding creature that was created and developed into something alive. Between stopping criminals in the wild outskirts where city guards couldn't be of use to small villages, trying to track down the raiders who destroyed their home, training with Harvest's innate shadow magic and Toma's taught light magic, and receiving visits from Veluren, who seemed to want to encourage their heroism, it was often pretty busy.
That's why moments like these, these simple and quiet times where they can just relax under the falling leaves meant the world to the two. Harvest's corn-husk feathers flittered along with the breeze as Toma loafed up in his brother's discarded hat for a nap to rest his wings and get off his talons, and the scarecrow used a bolt of shadow magic to snipe an apple from the tree above them, catching it quickly in the humanoid hand attachment he could swap at will. He opened his beak and popped the apple inside in a single bite, the empty cavity of his mouth and the hole in his torso filling up quickly with a shadowy film that would prevent his treat from falling out while his body turned it into mana that he could absorb for nutrition, and to regrow any damaged or shed 'feathers' off his form.
These were the days that Harvest was so thankful to be alive for with Toma at his side.
Something for some chill Autumn vibes before your regularly scheduled sin resumes.
Harvest and Toma are two "lazy days" characters who fit the vibe well of being casual but adventurous, enjoying their moments of downtime with each other as much as they do their more hectic moments, and I wanted to get something showing this off.
I also wanted to use this idea to show off a little bit of how Harvest's body works. Even though he's a scarecrow who grew a soul, he still needs to eat and the magic of his soul that animates him gives him some biological functions, namely making a "stomach" out of dark smoke that keeps food inside while breaking it down into magical energy that he can absorb to heal.
And of course, Toma is just vibing, he knows he's safe to take a nap with Harvest nearby.
This piece is really sweet and calm, and I'm just absolutely pleased with how it came out, hope you all enjoy it too!

And Harvest & Toma both belong to me.
