Thankfully the rain had finally stopped on the way back, with only the clouds remaining to cover up the cold night sky. Sonic set Mari's bag down on the dining table once they walked back inside, and Shadow went straight to his bedroom after removing his shoes at the door to take Mari's coat off and get her settled in bed. Sonic grabbed his clothes from the dryer, then got ready to leave. He walked into the bedroom and nudged Shadow's shoulder as he tucked Mari in, "Heh, guess I see now why you wanted to change the sheets before we left." He chuckled quietly when Shadow huffed in an annoyed fashion. "I'm gonna head back to Tails' place tonight. We should do this again sometime though."
Shadow watched Mari sleep as Sonic spoke to him. He was tired. It had been a long evening, and he was ready to sleep in late tomorrow morning. He glanced to Sonic, hesitating before speaking quietly. "... Would you like to stay tonight?"
"Wha-... You mean on the couch?""
"In here with us."
Sonic looked between Shadow and Mari, blinking as he thought about what was being asked. "Yeah, I can stay." He smiled and quickly walked out to set his suit on the table, then returned as Shadow was settling into bed after removing his gloves. He got in on the other side of Mari so she was between them, unable to stop himself from grinning the whole time. This night was already perfect with how well the date had gone, and getting to stay was truly the icing on the cake.
Both hedgehogs leaned over Mari before getting comfortable, sharing a quick kiss before they settled under the blanket. Shadow pulled Mari over once he started to get comfortable, and Sonic followed to snuggle up next to both of them, chin tucked over Mari's head with one arm draped across both her and Shadow's shoulder. Unlike his usual sleeping habits, Sonic didn't fidget much, quickly falling to sleep quietly with both Mari and Shadow nearby.
