A spindly wintermelon vine decided to grow in the yard this year after I tossed the seeds from one I purchased on a whim back in January. To my surprise, it did very well, producing several large melons (of which I do not know what to do with).

Wintermelon is not a common vegetable in modern Korea, but in the past they usually were eaten pickled in soy sauce or as jeonggwa. They also were used it to substitute daikon radish for dishes such as braised mackerel or beef soup.
