Maybe you know better than I do, but Derpy appeared once or twice in MLP as a background character I believe, and suddenly she's a well liked pony like Fluttershy or Rainbow-Dash. Wasn't it an animation error that caused her eyes to be weird and receive the name "Derpy" from Bronies?

Yeap. Her major apperances are "Sonic Rainboom", where she's one of the contestants, and "Feeling Pinkie Keen" where she drops a plant, an anvil, a cart and a piano on Twilight.
