Commission from

Emotion porn.
Something a bit different this time. Just lately I've been in a bit of a gloomy mood and, to be quite frank, I've been feeling completely out of place in the world. So I commissioned this as an odd sort of way of cheering myself up. The idea for this picture was inspired by two songs: Christy Moore's Ordinary Man and John Lennon's Working Class Hero, as well as by my own experiences. I don't normally like to delve into politics here on FA, as it's helpful to keep one space in your life clear of that stuff. Still, it was an idea I wanted to see brought to life, and the result is really quite incredible.
As an aside, I actually dress like this. Sad to say, my wardrobe has been informed more by my working life than by any sense of fashion. I've worked at several factories and they all want you to dress in bluejeans and polo shirts or t-shirts without any logos or emblems on them. My last factory was particularly strict about this, and you could get fired for wearing the wrong t-shirt. Though, to be fair to them, they often had clients on the floor and I can't blame them for not wanting their employees to wear shirts advertising beer or Playboy.
The card flying out of Megan's hand is supposed to be her name tag. My original idea had been for her to be discarding a cigarette, since it fits in with the general theme of the picture. No matter where I've worked, I've had co-workers who smoked like chimneys. But I don't smoke, and I thought maybe that would be pushing things a bit too much.
I don't know if the artist based the city behind Megan on a real city, but I didn't intend for her to be anywhere in particular.

I know it's not exactly a cheerful picture, but I think this is a very striking piece indeed, and one that would probably have caught my eye immediately even had it been of a different subject. The light is particularly nicely done, I think. Oh, and *hugs*, because I feel like it.
She really bowled me over with this one. She sent progress sketches to me at every step, and I absolutely fell in love with it from the very first sketch. The lighting effect is very nicely done, too, and I like how it actually makes the scene seem even more desolate than it was before it was added in. Her art really is incredible, and this is probably my favorite picture of Megan so far.
*Hugs back* Thanks.

Yeah, the city is just meant to be generic and not anywhere in particular. What I asked for was actually just a small piece of a city street under a streetlamp, but the artist really outdid herself on this one. I love the atmosphere of this piece, too. It really does stand on its own, with no explanation necessary. I debated on not saying much on this piece, except for the usual credit and links, to see how people interpreted it. But I can't help shooting my mouth off, I guess.
On the clothes, part of the issue with the last factory was that their regular employees had an actual uniform, which was a blue polo shirt with the company logo on one shoulder, and khaki trousers. So they wanted their temps, like me, to look as uniform as we could. Though it was mostly logos and pictures they were concerned about. A shirt with stripes, for example, would have been okay. I just kind of prefer solid colors.
*Snugs* Thanks, hon.

It certainly is. It really blew me away the first time I saw it, and I think it's one of the best commissions I've ever bought. It's very moody, and there's something oppressive about the city itself. Of course, in the real world, I'm a small town girl, and I live on a farm, so I find cities to be rather unpleasant anyway. But this is something special. Still, not to worry. Nobody bounces back like a rabbit.
