Bio:
Dale Knott was born at a chilly night at Missouri. He was all alone at the time, not knowing where his parents were. Two humans eventually found him, and decided to abopt him as their own son. His mother was Mia Knott, and his father was Leo Knott. At first, Leo was happy to raise Dale and was hoping he could use him for his own benefits, which was why Leo treated Dale with kindness at first. Leo even went so far as to afford top study programs for the fox.
But to Leo's surprise, Dale managed to deduce Leo's manipulation when he was just 8. That was when Leo realized that Dale's makings of greatness within him started to become a threat to him, and so, he started to abuse Dale, trying to dehumanize him, insult him, downplay his accomplishments, and even accused him of 'cheating' at a murder mystery contest at school when he won.
His mother realized just how abusive Leo really was. He was very good at hiding it, especially in public. It escalated to the point where his father tried to beat her up to silence her from ever going to the police. But just as he was about to throw another blow at her, Dale blocked his path, telling him straight in the eye, "If you're going to kill momma, you'll have to kill me first."
The father became infuriated and started beating up Dale. He was too focused on doing that that he didn't realize Mia using the baseball bat to knock him unconscious. After calling the police, they eventually took Leo to jail. But just as he was about to be sent to the police cruiser, Leo glared at Dale and said, "You think you're special, Dale? You'll never have makings of greatness! You have been, and always will be, a loser and a failure!" Leo was then taken into custody and arrested for domestic and child abuse.
The incident changed Dale and his mother's life to the point where they would have to move out of Missouri and to the state of Colorado. Though Dale still loved his father and was heartbroken, his mother comforted him, telling him he won't have to deal with Leo anymore. The incident inspired her to become a psychologist. Now that Leo was no longer there with her, his mother encouraged Dale to become a detective, which was something Dale always dreamed of after reading Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot and Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes novels.
Dale managed to graduate in college and started his own private investigation firm.
He gave out an application, searching for someone to become his assistant. That was when Kate Hall, a female anthropomorphic rabbit at the age of 26, arrived at his firm. When she saw him, however, she looked threatened at the sight of him, as he was a predator species, and her friend was killed by a female wolf at her village. After Dale managed to calm her down, using the psychological trick he learned from his mother, which was to help her take deep breaths and ground herself by telling him what she saw, Kate apologized, saying that after the incident, she had a certain distrust in predators.
Kate wanted to become a detective, not only to prove herself, but also to be able to solve the case of that incident and bring that wolf to justice. Despite her distrust in predators, Kate asked Dale if he could help her solve the case. Dale agreed, and he managed to solve the case with her and brought the killer to justice.
Kate and Dale had been inseparable ever since, and even developed feelings with each other to the point where they had a romantic relationship. Thus, they would work together to help solve cases that seemed to be impossible and baffling. Their reputation preceded them to the point where defense attorneys often hired them to help exonerate those who were wrongfully accused or convicted.
Personality:
- Dale was known to be gentlemanly in his manner, always treating people with respect, even to those who didn't reciprocate, something that his mother taught him and one that he still remembers to this day. He is also humble, kind, caring, and lacks any arrogance and eccentricities that was common among Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot. However, due to the abuse he suffered, Dale develop people-pleasing tendencies, often apologizing profusely when he felt or told he did something wrong, having poor boundaries, and even tried to keep his line of questioning as safe as possible in fear that if he were to go too far, the witnesses or suspects would be uncooperative.
This also happens since Dale was also afraid he might become just as arrogant as Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot themselves, which would put off people.
Due to this, whenever the witness or suspect he encounters gets defensive, he would often back off and apologize. But with the help of Kate, Dale learned to stand up for himself in a firm but respectful manner, which was different than the way Kate tried to stand up for herself and him, and Dale learned to push a little farther when needed to solve cases.
