both me and pel are technically inclined, so often it comes up as a topic of discussion!
funny how two creatures with no way to convey information verbally still continuously take so much of it in. and can dispense it quite easily... given the right tools!
although each of our technical knowhow is fairly separate, the basic fundamentals of technology are intertwined. It's that burning passion for all things technical, eletronically powered. And the internet forms an integral part of that fascination, it's inner workings, the protocols that power it.
It makes sense to me that pel would end up with such a skill set, given her entirely silent demeanor. i think she plays to her strengths in a profession where speech is not all that necessary.
i myself have always been a bit of a quiet type. i suposse it's just as well that I ended up losing my mouth too... not that I even used it all that much anyway.
When we meet up for things like this, to have discussions on a more specific basis, with a need for lots of technical terminology and explaining complex concepts, it's unavoidable that we need to communicate with eachother using some form of text, be it via a laptop computer, or sometimes a mobile phone. Usually a laptop is the easiest way, since we can communicate by using the laptop keyboard and an orbitouch for pel, typing in our messages to eachother on the screen to see, and manipulating the computer's GUI as needed to get things done!
but given how expensive orbitouch devices can be, i understand pebble's hesitance to haul it around in public.
So, laptop keyboard it is, when meeting out in public
Sometimes though, it's... a bit odd.
It seems to me that Pebble... it likes to use the keyboard once in a while... i think it enjoys it? though it is a bit slower to type things out with it. I don't really say anything about that (and i literally can't say anything), i don't feel it's my place. i guess i just attribute it to nostalgic familiarity with the interface of the keyboard, despite the awkwardness of its hooves typing on it.
I actually find it endearing to just watch her grapple with slowly typing out her thoughts, watching her carefully consider what words to use to get her thoughts across in as few characters as possible.
she's also not past typing out emojis in response to my own muffled noises! tit for tat i suposse haha
i do have a bit of a bad habit of replying with my own vocal noises rather than type things out. I swear i'll get used to not having a mouth anymore... eventually
We sat for a long time looking at how Pel has built out her website, in an attempt to get my own snootie brain to start getting some ideas on how to build mine!
I've tried it before but it's a skillset i'ver never quite cultivated. But talking about it with pel makes it very fun, she's got quite the soft spot for it in her heart i think
and she's damn good at it, her website speaks for itself. A labor of love, i would say!
[pictured: snootie and pel sitting together deep into a technical discussion of how pel's website is built, snootie trying to take in and learn as much as he can. he can keep up with most concepts described, but pel's habitual use and tweaking of her website can make it feel like she's blazing through certain things! As pel modifies code, merge's changes and pushes them to her website, snootie grunts and mmph's in response, hoping his message gets through, their communication still being a bit spotty despite the use of technology to talk with eachother. There seems to be some innate desire in both of them, one way or another, to communicate through the means they can no longer use, in spite of their limitations]
while catching up on my daily sketch journal, pebble comes up ocassionally!
i quite like the idea of these 2 mouthless creatures meeting up and discussing some fairly complex technical subjects, unbeknownst to everyone around. Someone looking at them sitting together with a laptop might just think "what the hell could those two even be doing?".
It sometimes happens that those who don't know them can get the impresison that, because neither has a mouth, they wouldn't have much to say. How wrong they would be.
