Sakura Elves from Japan.
Neo Elves from the United Kingdom.
Sea Elves from Africa.
Sol Elves from South America.
Timber Elves from Canada.
And Cyber Elves from the United States of Russia.
With each major global superpower having made their own attempts at the Elf Resurrection trend, it seemed odd that Laurentia never did.
But, the truth is... They did.
And it cost the overnight quiet death of the country.
Each country had their own solution to the Elven Arbor problem. Elven Arbors are magic trees, and magic doesn't exist on Earth.
You need an Elven Arbor to even begin making Elves, otherwise all that would happen is another Neo Elf. But how to solve the magic problem?
Laurentia wanted something different. Something distinctly from Earth.
And they believed they had a solution. A solution with unknowable origins.
The Jupitris Mirror.
The same cursed artifact that plunged the world into spiritual turbulence. The same artifact that transported dozens of people from across time into the cosmic dumping ground of dead civilizations known as Nebula Island.
The same artifact that the Nebula Island survivors tried to destroy, and begged the Laurentians to destroy time and time again.
Surely, this would be enough to substitute the presence of magic and craft an Elven Arbor. Right?
Except, using the Mirror as a means to sustain an Elven Arbor was a monumental task. And in the end, hundreds of sickly twisted trees were produced, but only one lived long enough to produce a single fruit before it inevitably died.
A single elf child.
As there was only one, the Armstrong Family felt there was no need to give her a species name. With all the resources and man hours spent to produce a single elf, the project was deemed a failure and terminated.
She was healthy at least. A girl with pitch black hair with curiously red natural streaks, and eyes of blood crimson.
The Armstrong Family had already dictated the child's name would be Cassius before they ever knew she was a girl.
Out of stubborn pride, the name stuck.
Cassius grew up under constant monitoring, education, and expectation.
If she had power, it wasn't easily understood.
Still, the Armstrong Family had her tested for reproductive capability, and she was deemed able to mate with humans.
And so, at a very young age, she was introduced to Angus Armstrong, the young heir to the Holy Throne.
She was educated and carefully raised and fed by the Family with her purpose to be a good and loving wife for Angus someday. To be his wife, lover, child bearer, protector, and carry out his will in all things.
Her education was top of the line, to make her the perfect wife. Her diet and exercise carefully crafted to maximize her body's sexual traits, to make her the perfect sex object. She was trained in multiple martial arts, and made into the perfect living weapon.
But Angus was a kind soul, and theirs was a genuine friendship. And as adults, a genuine romance.
And still, she did as she was trained to do. Against his mother's wishes, Angus told Cassius to speak her mind in all matters and to roam the kingdom to learn the plights of the people.
Angus didn't want his future bride to be a brainless baby factory. He wanted a friend above all else, a friend he could share his life with.
And as adults, they would do as grown men and women are prone to do with each other. His kindness, attentiveness, and genuine care for her made being a betrothed wife seem like a dream come true.
But soon, the Kingdom would bear the weight of their hubris.
On the morning of Cassius's 25th birthday, the day she was to wed Angus, the Jupitris Mirror, kept locked away under the Royal Palace, fissured.
A great gash forming along its side.
And soon, the entire capital of Laurentia became swallowed in thick fog...
