The rat at right (Percy) glows owing to the fact that he overindulged in bioluminescent fungi. He is, as you can see from the drawing, a bit of a greedyguts.
The rat at left is Algernon, who is the Master's chief assistant.
The Master himself, at center, is of some unknown age, but probably well over 3,000 years. (The Eldritch artifacts are likely keeping him in good fettle.) He is a very peaceful, civilized chap, whose main concern outside of research is TEA. Tea is very important, and the Master believes it is one of the signal elements of civilization. (And no, those cakes are perfectly edible and harmless.) As he's been underground for generations, he tends to be very hazy as to the nature of progress on the surface. That blunderbuss in the background (never used) is about the most "advanced" weaponry he knows of.
A few seconds later, and the Master is likely to gently scold Percy for reaching for a cookie without asking.
