Digiworld stories: Jingles and kicks
A normal day in the digital world, in the Central City, Digimon of all kinds could be found living their lives the best way they could, forming an extensive and united community.
Visitors were always encouraged to stop by the great Central Tower, to enjoy an impeccable view, or to explore the wonders of the markets that sold all kinds of items.
In one of these shops worked a duo of partners, Dinohyumon and Gawappamon both co-workers with a fun and lively dynamic.
Gawappamon was always energetic and upbeat, putting his full energy into everything he did, whether it was a simple sale or dealing with his grumpy partner, Dinohyumon.
Dinohyumon, on the other hand, was a more timid, quiet digimon who seemed perpetually annoyed at everything, naturally frustrated that his career as a fighter hadn’t gone as he hoped. A warrior Digimon selling accessories in a small, cramped shop...
Still, he had to keep going if he ever wanted to earn the merit to become a true warrior worthy of his skills.
Gawappamon always supported him in that dream and made sure to help with sales, the two now sharing a small space where they could profit from their products. Of course, Gawappamon took care of the flashy part, singing and shouting to attract anyone nearby.
Although Dinohyumon appreciated the good intentions, he always thought Gawappamon exaggerated too much and since he hated attention, that made it even worse.
Gawappamon: Yo, my guy! Cheer up! The city’s busy today! Why don’t you tidy up your table, put up a poster like I did here, check it out!
Dinohyumon: Ugh... no... I don’t draw, you know that.
Gawappamon: Oh, come on! Then team up with me! I spent all night coming up with a song for us! Just wait, I’ll grab your part of the lyrics and...
Dinohyumon: No! I don’t sing. I already told you, this shop stuff is just temporary. I don’t want to ruin my image before becoming a legendary warrior.
Gawappamon: Oh?! C’mon, my guy! Since when is singing something to be ashamed of?! The newbies love it when I do it!
Dinohyumon: For you, it might not be a big deal, you’re small, round, soft and... agh! I mean, people don’t look at me and think I’d do something like that...
Gawappamon: Hahaha hey! We’ve known each other since rookie level! I know you like it, but alright, I get it. Still, it’s not like that’s gonna stop me from writing your triumphant entrance song for when you become a noble warrior! Hahaha! Think you can run from me?
Dinohyumon: Oh god! Please don’t!
Gawappamon: OH?! Look over there, look! New faces! Never seen that kind of digimon before. They’re so tiny! Hey hey hey! Come on, my guy, time to farm some sales!
They lived this routine, conflicting, yet friendly in its own way. Dinohyumon clearly had his limits, though, and Gawappamon knew them well after countless times he’d pushed too far.
Still, these little incidents weren’t really problems what happened between them was more like... a session of discipline.
That afternoon, Gawappamon was already on his fifteenth jingle — each one cheesier than the last — and it was driving Dinohyumon insane.
After another long day, he couldn’t take it anymore. As he stood up to grab some boxes in the back of the shop, he “accidentally” elbowed the back of Gawappamon’s head, knocking his headphones under the table.
Gawappamon: AAHHH! Dude! Why’d you do that? That’s delicate!
Dinohyumon: Oh?! Uh... sorry?
Gawappamon squeezed himself between the table and the boxes, humming yet another jingle he planned to use for the next sale.
As he picked up the headphones and turned to get out, he was suddenly blinded by something — Dinohyumon sat on a bench near the table and, with his powerful legs, pushed Gawappamon further underneath.
Gawappamon: Ugh damn it! No, my guy! Not again, listen i'm sorry!!!
Dinohyumon didn’t answer. He simply pressed one of his feet against Gawappamon’s stomach, feeling his friend’s hand grab his sole in protest, while the other foot pinned Gawappamon’s face down, his beak caught between Dinohyumons toes.
Dinohyumon: For god’s sake, man! can’t you be silent for just a few minutes?! Ugh, that’s enough for today, alright?! Give that voice a rest!!
Gawappamon’s muffled groans were loud, his face flushed red with embarrassment and nervous sweat. He tried to move his head, to gesture something, but froze when Dinohyumon’s toes adjusted perfectly around his face... claws just a millimeter from his soft skin.
Dinohyumon: Shhh... see? Not that hard, right, little guy? *chuckles* Look, let’s try this again, okay? I train hard to be a warrior, so there’s one thing I value a lot: something simple called discipline.
He pressed Gawappamon’s face a bit harder underfoot, feeling the soft, round texture beneath him, that familiar sensation of control filling his head.
Dinohyumon: Discipline, something you clearly need. So today’s session will last until you clear that messy head of yours and learn to control those wild emotions.
Gawappamon couldn’t do much but accept the position. From experience, he knew that when he was at his friend’s feet like this, it was dangerous to push his buttons. So he stopped resisting, letting his face mold against the sole pressing down on him, one hand lightly brushing against Dinohyumon’s other foot in a clumsy attempt to calm him down.
Dinohyumon stacked a few more boxes around the table, barely covering his friend beneath, then went back to tidying up his desk, waiting for the day to finally end, with his friend under his feet, hopefully learning a valuable lesson.
At least, that was the idea ... since these “sessions” were becoming a bit too frequent.
Digimon time stranger is a game where the digital world feels more alive than ever. Can you believe these two are just shopkeepers selling basic items?!
Even without deep dialogue, the game focuses so much on digimon that I noticed these two are always together no matter where you go!
It’s amazing how many little side stories unfold in this world beyond the main and side quests!
Anyway, it didn’t take long before I started imagining something like this between those two! I’d love to see more of them in the game, but I still need to progress through the story ^^
