Actually the stairs are what jumped out at me first, as well -- but it's not their general presence, it's the fact that they're made up of such jagged, harsh lines when everything else is so soft and subtle. A bit of painting over the edges to soften them up would fix that easily. (:
Since you have positioned the pools to flow on to the next one below it, you need to add a heavier waterfall effect from one pool into the next. From the angle you have it, it looks like there isn't any water in these pools at all. Add more flow from one pool into the next one.
