When I first scribbled the early ideas for Ehraan City back in 2014, I already knew I was in for a wild ride. The complexity and sheer scale of that chapter were daunting. I even made a sketch with an arrow pointing down that said, “I’m gonna die here!”
Despite Ehraan City being one of the largest places I’ve ever painted, it remains one of my absolute favorites. It’s layered with intricate architecture and serves as one of the main focal points of the region, drawing traders and travelers from every corner of Yria. The entire city is built around a single, massive tree, connected to a deep and powerful water source that runs through vast cave systems beneath it.
The settlement grew slowly over time, as early settlers found refuge and water within the caverns created by the tree’s roots. Over thousands of years, Ehraan City evolved beneath the precious shade and life the tree provides. This rare species, known as Walyr, is often called the Mother of Dragons and stands as a sacred symbol among the people of Yria. That is why the top layer of the city honours the tree by protecting its natural space with big walls with no entry. Despite the top layer looking pristine and friendly, this place also has some really dingy corners, of course. This chapter took me the longest to paint, and it’s fascinating to see how my art style has evolved since then. Yet the city still stands timeless, like a sculpture, within Vol. 1.
Gosh, I’m really sorry once again for being so slow with posting new pages. The past months have been packed with conventions, important work, and family time, but I’m finally ready to settle in for winter and get back into my creative cave. While working on new artwork, I ran into some hardware issues. My tablet has been acting up, and I’m currently knee-deep in troubleshooting to get it back on track. I’ll get there, no worries! In the meantime, I’ve been pushing forward with several new concepts and making steady progress. Once the tech trouble is fixed, I’ll be back at full speed. There’s so much new art on the horizon and I need to move fast before my impatience takes over and take down my current PC with a hammer.
I also dove deep into researching better shipping options because I plan to offer art prints again after several years of hiatus. The great news for my US readers: I’ve switched to USPS Print, a service for books and printed materials that’s about 35% cheaper than DHL! The first batch of orders was picked up this Monday and I’m so relieved to be bringing more books to new readers again! I’ll continue looking for even better options and keep you updated about everything.
Thank you so much for supporting my small business and for your patience through all these transitions. <3
My current autumn sale is still going on, up to 40% off of my store!
