Another old study on a mythical beast. How I think a griffin might work...might revise it later on since I've had more ideas on the structural capabilities of the creature.

Not sure how many actual tail bones they have either, same with avian necks.

I think the actual legend originated with early finds of the ceratopsian dinosaurs.

I've read that and agree, it's really interesting what ancients thought dinosaurs and other prehistoric bones might have been^^ Like the centaur, one scientist I saw on a show about this topic said it was possible that an earthquake in Greece shifted some buried bones to the surface and a human top half was found near the rear bits of a horse and the discoverer made the centaur as an explanation. Not sure how true any of it is but still interesting to think about^^
Ive seen some evidence they lived at the same time as humans. Angkor Wat Temple has carvings of Stegosaur on the outside walls along with other native wildlife. It was built late 12th century. http://s8int.com/WordPress/?p=1075
True, and there are carvings and rock paintings of creatures supposedly extinct all over the world that scientists now try to pass off as imagination or stylized images of spirit animals...please, the ancients drew and sculpted what they saw, they weren't that into making stuff up besides religion.
