The Chinese Ki'lin and the Japanese Ki'rin were probably sub-species of the same Unicorn.
The Chines describe the Ki'lin as a mix between the female "Lin" and the male "Ki". Ki'lin is a perfect animal. It had scales and a mane and tail with flowing hair. The colors were sacred and were: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Black and White. In the earliest drawings the Ki'lin had two branched horns like a yearling stag, but has since been described as having only one. No consistency has been seen in how the coloring was or even how the animal looked. Said to be very gentle.
The Japanese Ki'rin was a fierce creature with fierce eyes hidden under bushy eyebrows. It was also a perfect animal, but was less gentle then it's Chinese cousin. It had one curved horn nestled in it's immence mane and used that horn to kill the evil person during a court hearing, basically; it could tell who was guilty and dealt with them on behalf of the judge. Tawny in color with cloven hooves. Again, no reall consistency in decriptions exist.
This is part of my "Unicorn Species" Series. Based on descriptions I have available, these are what I think they would look like!
If anyone knows of any I missed, please let me know, but look thru all of them first! Thanks!
