A Tourist Route
And here in Mataan, the region of the highclass population, the city of lights and gold, you can find everything, a commercial zone, a community square, stunning architecture filled with skyscrapers, and one of the best diners in all of New Amsterdam.
The most sought-after spot by visitors is the central square, located just past the great suspension bridges that stretch over the endless abyss of old Amsterdam. From there you get a breathtaking view of the lights of what once was the history of this glorious city and a chilling sight of the deadly drop that lies beneath your feet.
In the middle of the square stands one of the city’s wonders -> the Golden Lion. Some say it was built just weeks after Mataan was founded, others claim it was salvaged from old Amsterdam. There are also rumors that, like the other golden statues, it is an ancient representation of forgotten gods of some long lost people ... Nobody really remembers, and truthfully, nobody really cares.
Mataan has embraced this monument as its trademark, more for its peculiarity than its origin. It’s no secret that the statue moves when no one is watching, most often at night, though there are stories of it shifting even in broad daylight during weekends. With its multiple arms changing position each day, it’s a strange mystery admired by the citizens of Mataan. Naturally, it became a subject of inspiration for graffiti artists of every style, since the city itself is filled with graffiti works. Curiously, however, the main monument has never been targeted.
Perhaps this is out of respect...like something somewhat admirable from a population that, despite their struggles with inconvenient graffiti, could not deny there was an honor in keeping that historical monument untouched.
That’s what people say. But the truth ? The statue simply doesn’t allow itself to be vandalized.
It’s a living statue! And I mean truly alive, not a robot or anything like that! It has awareness, personality...but surely no soul, given its cursed habit of devouring graffiti artists!
No parkour professional could dodge and escape so many mechanical arms. It didn’t matter what you tried, slow as it was, its colossal size made you a pathetic prey.
And how was this information discovered? Because I saw it!! I was a victim! I’m telling you this now so that you don’t fall for the glamour and shine of Mataan. It’s a dangerous place, marked by the presence of this creature that never lets its prey escape.
I warn you: don’t go near it! Beware.
