A disaster of size-reducing proportions strikes once again as Cress evaluates relics from a recent expedition (seriously, he should consider finding a less dangerous job). While training Neko—a new apprentice at the guild who arrived with his partner, Viola—a certain sneaky statue slips its way into a box of artifacts. Cress thought he was rid of it for good, but it seems to have a particular penchant for tormenting the poor Totodile. Now shrunken to a far smaller size than ever before, how is Cress supposed to get his apprentice’s attention?

Neko was struggling slightly as he carried the box through the halls of the Latimas Guild. This one felt heavier than the previous few boxes, and was a little bigger as well. He reached the Archaeology Lab, where Cress was arranging some artifacts on a desk.
“H-Here’s the next one, sir,” Neko said, some exertion obvious in his voice as he carried the box into the room.
“Oh! Thank you, Neko,” Cress said, coming over and taking the box, bringing it to the desk to start taking the artifacts out, “You don’t need to be so formal, though. ‘Cress’ is fine, like I said before.” He gave a casual, friendly smile.
“R-Right, sorry sir-- I mean Cress,” the Meowth stammered a bit in response. Considering he and his teammate, Viola, were apprenticing under Cress and his teammate Firrin, he had felt like it was necessary to address Cress that way, “I’ll go and get the next box.”
“You sure?” Cress asked, “You looked like you were having some trouble carrying this one. Would you like to take a short break first?”
“I’ll be fine,” Neko answered, “I don’t think there were that many other ones.”
“Alright,” Cress replied, “Just don’t push yourself too hard, alright?”
Neko nodded a bit and went back out of the room, going down the hall. As he did, he passed by the training area, catching a glimpse of Viola and Firrin practicing on some poor, helpless training dummies.
Back in the Archaeology Lab, Cress had opened the box and started unloading the artifacts inside. There were a few small statues of Pokémon, and what looked like an ancient, broken Pokéball, along with a Game Boy in a similar condition.
“Haven’t seen one of these in forever, heh,” Cress chuckled a bit to himself before setting the Game Boy down with the other artifacts.
He continued unloading artifacts from the box, not thinking much about a small statue he picked up until he glanced at it, his eyes widening in shock as he recognized the Pokémon as a Mew. Cress had been in possession of a Mew statue before, and while he wouldn’t have been alarmed if this were just a similar statue, this one looked exactly the same, even having the same gem on it.
Cress had gotten rid of this statue after having been shrunk by it twice before. It had been difficult for him to get rid of such an interesting find, but he felt like it had been more trouble than it was worth. Not to mention, Firrin had insisted it would be a good idea to get rid of it. But how did it end up in this box?
Before Cress could think more about that, the gem started glowing, and he noticed that his thumb had been on it when he picked the statue up. He panicked a little, quickly putting it down on the table, though it was too late. He’d suddenly feel a tingling sensation throughout his entire body, and he felt as though he was trapped in a plummeting elevator as the table seemed to shoot up high above him, with the floor seeming to stretch out below him. In just a few moments, he was a small speck on the floor, the carpet being like waist-high grass to him.
But he didn’t stop shrinking there.
Soon, the grass-like carpet fibers were as big as trees, then as tall as buildings, before finally becoming taller than any skyscraper he’d seen in Latimas City before. The shrinking stopped, and Cress shakily got up as he looked around, starting to miss the size he had been shrunk to the last time.
If the Totodile hadn’t seen everything growing around him, he probably wouldn’t even realize these massive, towering structures were mere carpet fibers. Beyond them, he’d also spot what seemed to be gigantic boulders, some of which were as big as mountains. He assumed these were just specks of dust and dirt, which wouldn’t have been noticeable at his normal size. This carpet really needed to be cleaned…
As Cress was thinking about this, he looked at one of the nearby carpet strands. From the closest one, it seemed wider than the entirety of Latimas City, so it was pretty huge, and stretched quite high into the sky. The fiber itself was made up of what seemed to be smaller fibers all twisted together. He sighed a bit, and grabbed onto the fiber, starting to climb up. Sure, he was very small, but maybe he’d still be noticeable. He hoped so, anyway.
Of course, at this size, climbing this single carpet strand was a nearly herculean task, and just getting up a fraction of its height was exhausting. Though, on the bright side, the individual strands provided just enough space to rest for short moments.
As he was getting halfway up, Cress would notice some slight tremors in the ground, which vibrated through the carpet strand he was climbing. They were quite distant and faint at first, but each one was stronger than the previous one, and they’d soon be accompanied by loud, echoing booming sounds. Cress wasn’t sure what they were at first, as they felt too rhythmic to be earthquakes, but it soon hit him that they must have been footsteps.
In addition to these, as Cress continued climbing up, he’d hear another distant, echoing sound. It almost sounded like a voice, and while it was difficult, he could somewhat make out what it was saying.
“HERE’S THE LAST ONE, CRESS!”
“N-Neko…!” Cress stammered, finding it hard to raise his voice with how exhausted he was. He’d manage to get to the top of the strand, panting and catching his breath as he settled down at what seemed like a vast plain at the top of the strand. Though, as he looked up, his eyes widened as he was greeted by the sight of a massive, blurry shape high above, only recognizing it as Neko due to the similar coloring, though he also noticed something massive and pink…
It took a moment before the pink thing descended closer, and became more clear: The vast, padded sole of Neko’s paw. It looked unbelievably huge, each toe claw looking larger than a mountain, let alone the rest of the massive toes, which were almost region-sized.
“CRESS?” Neko’s distant, booming voice echoed, “WHERE DID YOU GO?"
“N-Neko!” Cress shouted, starting to jump up and down and waving his arms with what little strength he currently had after climbing, “I’m down here!”
Of course, even if Cress could shout as loudly as he possibly could, he wouldn’t have been heard. Not at this size. Neko’s huge paw would continue descending towards Cress, who closed his eyes and braced himself for the impact.
As the huge foot slammed down, Cress’ carpet fiber happened to be right between two of the massive toes. The impact was earth-shaking for the Totodile, launching him quite a bit before landing among a bunch of thick trees, one of which he quickly grabbed onto instinctively. Obviously, they weren’t really trees: They were strands of fur on Neko’s toe, and in addition to them, the nano Totodile was surrounded by various boulders similar to the specks of dirt he saw in the carpet before. He looked up, and carefully began climbing as he felt the foot continue to move, each earth-shaking step threatening to knock him down from here. He wasn’t sure how, but he needed to get Neko’s attention!
“Cress?” Neko asked, looking around, “Where did you go?”
The Meowth looked around, placing the box he was carrying on a nearby table as he walked around the lab, trying to see if Cress was somewhere in here. He hadn’t said anything about going anywhere, and he hadn’t seen the Totodile on his way back here. He was about to head out of the room to look elsewhere, but something on the table caught his attention. He walked up to it, seeing what seemed to be a statue of a Mew. It looked quite well-made, and the gem on it was particularly intriguing, especially being so shiny. Neko leaned in, sure that taking a closer look at this couldn’t hurt…
