During my stay in Chino Hills I had to make several trips back and forth to the desert to try and clear the storage locker of as much stuff as I could, hoping to make the move easier, I still have a little more than half of the locker filled with books, toys, action figures and just plain household junk, but thanks to my friends and the Christian Thrift store next to the locker facility, I was at least able to give some of my toys and stuffed animals a good home.

Actually you can blame the "Joke" on my friend Scott. He sent me the box clearly labeled "UFO Parts" just to rattle the folks at the USPS. I leave the box up high in the storage locket just to watch the likes of Dave or Ton fall over themselves and darn near kill each other for a box full of paperback books.
Getting rid of stuff it tough. I go on binges now and then, of trying to unload a bunch of 4 inch helicopters, or a stack of furry comics, or some McDonald's toys or a bunch of Hotwheels, but usually no one wants them. Now and then, I find them homes. The rest of the time it has to be the Sally Ann, where I've no assurance the stuff won't be broken by next week without ever being sold.
I gave a lot of furry comics to a local comics fan who writes sarcastic reviews on his website.
The helicopters sat in used book & used item store across the road on commission, but no one showed any interest. But I did sell about a dozen unwanted toy cars there. The Hot Wheels were a write-off. Collectors only want them in the package, preferrably signed by the designer and the president of the company. I ended up just giving them away to kids, mostly.

Right. One of the reasons I gave most the stuffed animals and toys to the Thrift Store was because I felt they would be given to an actual child and make them happy, which is the purpose of playthings anyway. I'm glad you found satisfaction in doing the same with the toy cars.
Our yardsale did well enough....the proceeds are going to a friend who is getting screwed by the System. I won't go into it...long story.
I don't do Craig's List and certainly not eBay anymore. They took too much out of me for set-up fees. Not alot but I needed all the $ I could raise. So I do Amazon. Much better, smaller sized "audience" though. ^^;
I do flea markets all summer but with this economy, nobody's buying. $20 a table and you get no sales...it's all a crapshoot. (shrug) Can't win. My stuff ain't crap either...it's my possessions. Almost insulting, it is.

i've walked away from everything i couldn't carry on my back about 5 times in my life. just to get the heck away from the dead end where i'd been.
i'd take everything labled on those boxes if i had a place to put anything more then what i've already got, which i don't. you should see the 'closet' i'm living in.
someday i'll move into a real apartment, if i can find one that won't discriminate against my refusal to use credit or own a car. (either of which would eat up what little i have to spend on trains and computers which is what i prefer to)

when i was little my dad worked the extra board, because he didn't have a lot of seniority yet, so we never stayed more then a couple of years in any one place until i was in the third grade, so i got sort of used to, when i was really little, having to leave stuff behind. i didn't like it of course, and now that i've got what is hopefully a reasonably reliable income, even though its just bearly enough to get by on, plus now that i'm as old as i am, (the two are kindof connected), i don't plan on or expect to have to leave behind what little i have now again. but at the time, when i was younger, it was worth more to do so then what the alternative would have been. i'd love to still have some of it, about a third of the stuff that got abandon, but the other 2/3rds was just ballast, that was sentimental to other people who had given it to me and wanted me to have it for reasons that had nothing to do with who i was or wanted to be. but i've got now, just about only what i actually and frequently use. which is still more then i can carry on my back in one load though. (or even one pickup truck load, takes about two and a half to get all of it moved)
The way I handled the problem was to put things in three piles. One for items I knew I'd never need again, one for stuff to keep and one pile for stuff to give to "Charity." Now "Charity" doesn't necessarily mean "Give it to the Poor," but more to give said items to friends, family and those I knew who could use or treasure the items. In giving little things to good friends, I knew they would be taken good care of, and I would know where they are.
If you're tolerant of the Summer Heat, Colorado is a nice state to live in. There's lots of Live Steam railways still in operation for the Tourist Trade. Of course North-Western Nevada is Booming because of the newly discovered Gold and Coal deposits there, so it might be worth looking into that area of the country.
