I think you edjumakated me to not use my film flash with my digital camera due to high voltage and frying the camera electronics.. Not to mention there's no flash port on the digital camera to plug the flash into. So I resorted to purchasing a new one for times when the built in one doesn't do what I'm looking for.
As for sunlight.. The coat looks kinda flat, although the detail still shows up.

To clarify for our readers... a sufficiently old electronic flash (like for example, my sunpak auto 611 "potato masher" flash) will have the flash lamp trigger voltage on its input terminals. Thats 50 to 100 volts, and will make a modern electronic camera Very Sad ™. There are high voltage hot shoe adapters to protect them.
Pondering your image... yea it does look a bit flat. But there are shiney areas, like glare, where the angles to make it stand out. The geometry of my shot seems to have hit that sweet spot.
