Chapter 4 [Final]: A Happy Ending
-Story-
-Later that morning-
Elisa walked down the sidewalk, she had somewhere to go, she had important matters to attend to, for some friends of hers. She turned a corner and came face to face with the Brooklyn Grand Mall. "Well, here I am, I hope I can figure out what kind of modern stuff gargoyles like..." She thought to herself before entering the building.
-Sunset-
The Gargoyles break free from their stone sleep and get ready for the night, Broadway and Lex seem to be a little disappointed about last night ending the way it did, but they seemed to be somewhat over it, Brooklyn on the other hand was still very bummed, he tried to hide it from the others but he wasn't doing a good job at that. The red gargoyle didn't leave his post.
Broadway: Hey, You wanna come get some breakfast with us?
Brooklyn: Nuh. I'm fine, I'm not feeling hungry right now.
Broadway and Lex just shrug and head down into the castle leaving Brooklyn sitting alone at his post, staring off at the cityscape once again. Then suddenly he hears a voice behind him.
Elisa: Hey there Brooklyn. How's it going?
Brooklyn turns to see Elisa standing in the doorway behind him.
Brooklyn: Oh, hey Elisa. It could always be worse I guess... If you're looking for Goliath, he's down in the castle having breakfast.
Elisa: Oh, I'll talk to him afterwards, I just want to chat with you.
Brooklyn: Oh yeah? what about?
Elisa: I heard about last night's little expedition.
Brooklyn: oh yeah... that...
Elisa: It sounded like you had a great time at the Mall.
Brooklyn: Heh, yeah, "Had"... it was going well until Goliath showed up to ruin all the fun.
Elisa: Well it doesn't have to be all bad, you got to do it, and hey, you had an experience of the modern world. Listen, I know it seems grim now, you know, with what happened, I know you're feeling trapped. To be honest, I was like that when I was in my younger years, starting at College, all I wanted to do was travel and explore as much of the world as possible. But never really got the chance to do it for a long time, during that time, I felt very trapped, my studies kept me from having really any time to do that stuff, I would be lying if I said that didn't get to me then.
Brooklyn: I just don't know how to do this, Goliath seems hellbent on us staying in the shadows, away from all humans...
Elisa: I wouldn't say that, he just wants you safe is all, I already spoke to him last night after it all went down.
Brooklyn: I bet he probably told you I was reckless and putting everyone in danger, he probably thinks I am doing this out of some selfish pleasure of mine...
Elisa: He said what you did was reckless-
Brooklyn: heh... I knew i-
Elisa: But, he also said that he doesn't want to keep you like this. He feels bad for making you stay in the shadows and not letting you experience more, he just doesn't know how to let you do it safely.
Brooklyn: Does he not trust me?
Elisa: Its not that, its more so, he doesn't trust the people that walk these streets and what they could do to your kind.
Brooklyn: But not all humans are bad, I mean, look at you, you're the only human we've been able to trust so far.
Elisa: Well that's the problem, Humans are like a mixed bag, you will find genuine ones, and you will find some of the worst of the worst out there. They can be great friends, but also be great enemies. I know you are being as careful as you can, but we may need to plan something to make everyone safe and happy.
Brooklyn: How do you suppose we do that?
Elisa: We will figure something out. Until then, I assume you wanted to keep experiencing what the modern world has to offer?
Brooklyn tilted his head when Elisa said that, she went around the corner of the doorway and reached for a bag and pulled out a box, advertising a strange device on it. She handed it to him, he looked at it, wondering what it was.
Brooklyn: What's this thing?
Elisa: Its a portable gaming console, they seem to be very big nowadays and thought you might find it cool. There are also a few games I got for it too.
Brooklyn opened the packaging and pulled it out. He was amazed by it, it looked cool to him and was eager to try it out.
Elisa: I got some stuff for the others too, I just thought I'd hand you your gift first while I have you.
Brooklyn thanked Elisa and hugged her tightly, wrapping her in his wings. It definitely cheered him up to know how much a human cared for him and the Gargoyles as a whole. He smiled for the first time since that mall trip the previous night.
Brooklyn: It means so much that you would go to all that effort just for us, thank you so much Elisa.
Elisa: It's no biggie, I just thought I would do something to pay you all back too, especially after how you guys had saved my back countless times recently.
She had seen allot of weird stuff as a detective over the years, she thought she'd seen it all, but never in a million years would she have ever expected to be working with and befriending a group of real living Gargoyles.
Elisa: Come, we should go give the others the stuff I brought.
Brooklyn happily followed along, inspecting his new device, he seemed like he was going to enjoy it quite a bit. As they reached the others, they gave them all their new cool stuff. Broadway obviously was given a bunch of snacks from the food-area, Lexington was given a bunch of tools for a mechanic so he could test his understanding of modern machines. Bronx got a large chew-toy, Hudson got some best-selling books to keep him occupied, and Goliath, he was given a very nicely crafted stone medallion, he seemed impressed by the complex craftsmanship.
Goliath: What does this do?
Elisa: It's a medallion, I just wanted to give you something for you to remember that you always have a human in this world you can trust
Goliath: Thank you, I will keep this safe, Elisa
Elisa smiled happily, seeing them all happy about their new gifts really did bring a smile to her face.
Goliath: How did you obtain all of these items?
Elisa: I just went down to the Brooklyn Mall and bought it all.
Goliath: So that is what a mall is.
Elisa: Yeah, think of it like a indoor market, except way bigger.
Goliath: I see, thank you Elisa, you seem to have made everyone of my clan quite happy. I hope it didn't cause you too much struggle to obtain all this.
Elisa: Its no problem, as I said to Brooklyn, Its the least I can do for everything you all have done for me.
Brooklyn approaches Elisa holding the portable console as she is talking to Goliath.
Brooklyn: Hey uhh, Elisa, How do you turn this thing on?
Elisa: Oh, almost forgot!
Elisa pulls a set of batteries out of her pocket.
Elisa: You're going to need these, they're batteries, they give the console power.
Brooklyn: Cool! Thanks!...Hey, Goliath? I just want to apologize for my outburst last night. I just really wanted to be able to experience this world, I may have gone a bit too far by going somewhere so crowded
Goliath: It's fine, no need to apologize, I am sorry I had to drag you out of there, we will find a way to be able to explore this new world safely. I am still very wary of what happened. Now go have some fun.
Brooklyn: Thanks Goliath, I can't wait!
Brooklyn took the batteries and placed them in, officially turning it on. He went over to where Lex and Broadway were and showed them what he got. As she watched them playing around, she smiled, it was nice to know he was somewhat cheered up by her gratitude.
The group had a good night and all was well.
