Septemer 27th - National Bunny Day!
Well its that time of the year again, when all bunnies have the day off to chill and relax, National Bunny Day! Naturally Blueberry has it off, but you can chill with her if you like. Props to anyone who gets this year's classic movie reference!

There was a place near where we used to live that had the *best* pizza in town. Run by a little old lady with a strong accent. And they made hefty use of fennel seed in their Italian sausage. It was amazing. I have since been experimenting with fennel seed on my own pizzas, and even just a bit of it on a cheap frozen pizza makes it taste way better.
Try this one: caramalized fennel bulb (cooked with sherry and ponzo), roasted red peppers, smoked bacon, goat cheese on a tomato sauce and olive oil brushed crust. Had it at the first Midwest FurFest at a nearby place.

You ain't whistling Dixie there, my friend. I used to work as a cashier in a grocery store. Someone came through my line with a bottle of fennel seeds. I took one whiff and said to myself, "That smells like dog fennel." When I looked at the label on the side of the bottle, I saw why. Whew! That's some strong smelling stuff.
Very nice. Fennel seed is one of my fave spices and I keep it in different ways in different bottles; whole, powdered, ground, and crushed (done manually myself with my 30-something lb granite mortar and pestle). And for those that cook, you know there's a difference between the ground and crushed for some spices. Brings a powerful taste to food as well as the smell. You know that distinctive smell that pepperoni pizza has, how you can tell from the next room that it's pepperoni? That's the fennel seed in the pepperoni.
So close, but no. It's actually a high-school comedy that Broderick was *almost* in that role, but when his father fell ill, Mathew Broderick quite acting for a while to stay close to him instead of acting, and the role went to another. Four years later, when he became Ferris Bueller, he delivered a quote almost exactly that of the role he had to give up.
