Chapter 2: Infiltrate
-Story-
The 3 gargoyles descended down to the ground, Brooklyn in particular was eager to experience it. He was hoping maybe there would be something cool he could find in there. As they reached the ground, they quickly went out of sight of everyone to an alleyway next to the giant shopping center and discussed their gameplan. They looked around the corner to see that there was a security guard walking around the front entrance, they knew there was no way they could casually waltz past him without there being trouble, so they decided to split up and scout the area to find another way in.
Meanwhile, Goliath was back at the castle, trying to figure out where the trio had got to. He had seemed to have searched the entire castle at this point and was beginning to worry that something had happened to them. That was until he ran into Hudson, who was sitting in one of the rooms watching TV with Bronx. Goliath thought he had to know something.
Goliath: Hudson, you wouldn't happen to know where Brooklyn, Lexington and Broadway have gone to? Would you?
Hudson sat there visibly thinking for a moment, trying to think about where they could be, he had seemed to forget about overhearing Brooklyn's plan the previous night. He probably sat there thinking for about 5 whole minutes before Goliath asked him another thing that would immediately remind him of what he heard last night.
Goliath: Well? Anything that may have hinted in them going somewhere atleast?
Hudson: Oh, well I remember hearing something last night from Brooklyn, it sounded like he was talking to the other two about a thing called a mall, though I just assumed it was them youths just messing about as usual, making up random terms. You know? This century is really starting to poison their young mind-
Goliath interrupts Hudson's ramblings after hearing about the mall, he himself didn't know what that was, but he knew it could only have something to do with humans. After all that happened on that fateful day 1000 years ago, Goliath did not want there to be any of the clan interfering with the humans, as now he struggled to trust humans and only assumed they would have bad intentions towards any of the clan they saw. He knew he had to act fast.
Hudson: Wait, Goliath, where are you going?
Goliath: I need to get them out of there and back to the castle before they do something reckless or worse, someone does something to them. Wait here and mind the castle, I need to handle this alone
Hudson silently nodded and drew his attention back to Bronx who was still sitting there. With that interaction, Bronx was now pretty worried himself, letting out a saddened grunt as he watched Goliath through the window, fly away over city lights. Worried maybe something would happen to the trio in the human territory.
Somewhat frustrated by Brooklyn's recklessness of sneaking out of the castle and going somewhere like that, he continued to glide across the city, trying to find any indication of this supposed "Mall". He knew such a public sounding setting was no place for any Gargoyle, even dangerous for him, but he knew he could defend himself if he had to, but the trio on the other hand, were young and reckless and he feared they wouldn't be ready if something went wrong in a world like this, they still weren't quite sure what these modern day humans were capable of, with all these otherworldly weapons, they needed to be ready. And so Goliath continued flying around, searching.
Back at the mall, Brooklyn, Lex and Broadway had managed to find a back-entrance that wasn't guarded. They entered and were immediately greeted by bright lights and big open rooms with a glass ceiling. They were a little overwhelmed to say the least, but with that, they were also in awe. the place was so big. There looked to be so many stalls. Brooklyn and Broadway couldn't hold back, Lex was still nervous, if something happened, how would they escape, it was entirely indoors. Broadway was already trying to find where the food was, he was held back by Brooklyn before he could run off.
Brooklyn: Easy there, Big guy, Listen, we need to stick together, we are surrounded by humans in here, we can't be splitting up. And I don't know if you noticed, I have some important business to take care of here. Ya know.
Lex sighs in frustration as the trio begin walking over to the first store they spotted, it appeared to sell clothing. Brooklyn immediately spotted a leather jacket on the far side of the room, his eyes widened as he rushed over there, not realizing the cashier giving them a weird look when they entered her store. Brooklyn picks up the jacket with a grin on his face.
Broadway: What's with the Jacket?
Brooklyn: This is the type of jacket all the tough motorbike guys wear, I just gotta get this!
Lexington: How are you gonna wear it with your wings?
Brooklyn: Listen, Lex, you don't need to be such a buzzkill.
Brooklyn stands there, wondering how to go about obtaining said jacket. He looked around and saw the store across the hall, seeing someone buying something and approaching the desk where the cashier was standing. "Hmmm...Just like the old markets from back in the past..." he thought to himself, he approached the counter and placed the jacket upon it. The unamused looking cashier just looked at the 3 of them with a puzzled look and then continued chewing her gum and began scanning the item.
Cashier: You boys know Halloween isn't until next month, right?
The cashier spoke in a heavy Brooklyn accent while looking somewhat unconvinced they weren't just costumes.
Brooklyn: Well uhh..Yes, we just have a uhh, A fancy dress party to attend.
Cashier: Well that'll be $40 thank you.
Brooklyn was shocked, he didn't quite think this part through, he didn't have money, then suddenly a little old lady walked in and approached the counter where they were standing.
Old Lady: Hello there young lady, I couldn't help but notice these boys here in really nice costumes, they seem to have put allot of time and money into them, how about I pay for this order so they don't have to waste any more money.
The trio in a state of bewilderment, stared at the exchange of money and how randomly nice this lil old lady was being to pay for the jacket on their behalf, and what happened next shocked them even further, the lady turned to face them with the bag and gave them the change telling them to keep it. They thanked the old lady as she went further into the store. There was about $60 in change she gave, she must've been rich to just throw $100 away for some complete strangers. As they left, they began to think that this place would just start treating them no different to anybody else, this caused them to let their guard down a bit.
-Later-
After buying a shirt and a pair of cool shades, the three of them decided now would be the perfect time to finally grab some food, they were able to smell cooking food and followed the scent to the food area. Once there, they were overwhelmed with the smell of all the different eateries surrounding them. Broadway was most excited, he quickly ran off with part of the change to get some food of his own, Lex, not feeling that hungry went and sat at a nearby table to wait for the others. Brooklyn went over to a restaurant that had a bunch of different foods in the display case, he noticed a Bacon egg and cheese bagel and thought it looked interesting. Once the guy working there looked up and saw the red gargoyle staring back at him, he panicked.
Worker: Hey, What do you want?? Please don't hurt me, I have a wife and kids! I see you want the bagel, JUST TAKE IT! Don't hurt me monster! Ahhhhh!
Placing the bagged baconeggandcheese on the counter before hiding underneath the counter. Brooklyn let out a heavy sigh of disappointment before taking the bagel and taking a bite of it, getting blown away by the taste, they never really had stuff like this back in 10th century Scotland, it was usually pretty basic stuff like meat, bread, etc. Nothing this complex though. It tasted amazing to him. He took another bite, then went to take another, but before he could, his heart sank into his stomach when he heard it, that voice...
Goliath: BROOKLYN!!!
He immediately knew he was in some trouble, Goliath sounded mad, "How the hell did he find us???" the startled gargoyle thought to himself. What were the trio gonna do?
Lexington: Uhh, Brooklyn, we seem to have a bit of a problem here...
Brooklyn: *Muttering* Lex...you could have warned me beforehand you numbskull...dammit...
He turned around to see a visibly angry Goliath gliding towards him before landing infront of him. Brooklyn stepped back nervously.
Brooklyn: Hey, Goliath, heh.. uh, Listen, I can explain, its not what it looks like...
Goliath: All of you, we are leaving.
Brooklyn: I was just-
Goliath: Now!
Brooklyn slowly picks his stuff back up and sadly walks out the door with the others while Goliath glares back at the shocked crowd to make sure they don't just go around talking about this. As they leave, 2 security guards who were watching the ordeal looked at each other, stunned.
Guard 1: Should we do something about this?
Guard 2: Nah, we ain't equipped enough for this Bologna.
Guard 1: Yeah, you;re right, I'm probably gonna put in my 2 weeks after my shift
-Afterwards-
The flight back to the castle was quiet and awkward, not a word was spoken, words would not be exchanged about this until they reached the castle.
