Here is a neat little tool I put together from the various odds and ends I have on hand.
This tool was made using a piece of scrap plate that was 2/8ths of an inch thick to make the clamping jaw. The clamping jaw was hammered over a V swage while it was cold to force a bend in to make the front end of the jaw have less contact as a clamping surface and only put pressure in a specific area, the pressure being right over the middle portion of the lower jaw.
The lower jaw was made from a section of 1/4 inch plate that was cut to thickness and then drilled at both ends and countersunk to accept two wood screws.
The clamping system is extremely rudimentary only composing of a coarse thread wood bolt that has to be tightened and untightened with a wrench. A spring was cannibalized from an old desk lamp and stretched to make the jaw easier to open.
It's just a quick and handy clamping system to hold plate stock that's not wide enough to just hold over the edge of something while I cut it with the angle grinder. I usually can get away with just holding it down, but the stuff that is a bit narrower is better off being clamped. I was meaning to get around making something like this because I've run into needing to rip down narrow plate stock for a while.
