Well, this is my take on Mienfoo, Decided to go with the Shaolin Monk look for this guy.
Shen Lao is a prodigy of the Shaolin Xingyiquan Style and is currently learning the Animal Styles from his master who is also his grandfather. He started at a young age of 5 and have shown great spirit and diligence to his training, no matter how harsh it was and believe me, it was Harsh as you know how Shaolin Monks train. Shen Lao, in his martial art, focuses on swift Attacks and precise strikes, trying to use only the necessary movement and power to deliver into an opponent. Shen Lao doesn't seek glory in battles but rather tries to learn where he faults at as well to understand himself and his opponent. He is a serious, devoted fellow who is always determined to perfect and understand his own Martial Arts. Even when he loses, he doesn't get upset about it. He acknowledges his defeat and strives to do better next time. Though he does seem to show some pridefulness every once in a while, being young and all.

Background: He's from Unova and the temple he's from is in the mountain region outside Opelucid City. He had attended school while still practicing martial arts as his grandfather agreed to let him attend school. Kids were curious about Shen as they usually don't see a Shaolin Monk attending school before. But he was able to keep up with his studies along with being able to with his harsh training. He was able to get a Scholarship to PCA, where it is known that many prospective students who are fighters there as well as a prestigeous school. His Grandfather agreed to let him attend there.
