Ibbs are small, slug-shaped slime creatures which exist in the tropical and warm temperate regions of Draikois. The slime which makes them up is an all-purpose substance which can form necessary organs and appendages at will. Because of this complexity, ibbs must remain quite small.
An ibb’s colouration (and taste) depends on its diet, often taking on the pigments found in its favourite foods -- and because ibbs are omnivorous, they come in every colour imaginable. As they eat, food is converted into more mass. When an ibb becomes too large to function correctly, they shed some of this mass, leaving slime trails and globs behind until they’ve returned to an acceptable size.
Ibbs cannot be harmed in most traditional ways, because no matter what damage happens to their body, they can simply reform. But their slime can be dissolved, and being so small, ibbs make suitable prey for a lot of the beasts of Draikois. As such, they are deeply untrusting of all beings larger than an ibb. They are difficult to find, because they spend so much of their lives hiding in whatever space they can fit in -- which is anywhere that isn’t watertight. To get by in a world so difficult for them, many ibbs form close-knit communities.
It is interesting to note that ibbs don’t partake in traditional reproduction. When an ibb reaches substantial mass, it has the option to split into two (or more) clones of itself. The clones share all of the same memories and experiences up until that point, which means they have the same personality. As they go out into the world and form new experiences, they may begin to diverge from each other and form two distinct individuals, gradually forgetting old memories.
This works in the opposite way as well. Two or more separate ibbs can combine into one body. In this state, they become one large ibb with all of the memories and personality traits of its constituents. If the personalities clash too badly, it can’t hold its shape for long, but if they mesh too well, they may lose their individuality and meld together. If they are split up after this happens, they may find they have traded memories and aspects, and if they stay like this much longer, they will merge into a single new individual -- the ultimate form of intimacy among ibbs.
All of these events are expected happenings in an ibb’s lifespan. Because of this, an ibb’s identity is as fluid and impermanent as their form.
