Yes, I was disappointed too, that the Gorn did not appear again, and this is one of the reason I never paid much attention to Star Trek in the later series. There was brief glimpse of an upgraded, CGI Gorn in Enterprise, but it looked more like a Jurassic Park Velociraptor that probably couldn't fly a Starship.
Thanks, since that photo was taken, the fight was restaged at DragonCon, and the Gorn won the "best sci-fi character" in the Masquerade contest.
The place where the original was filmed is a State Park called "Vasquez Rocks" in Southern California, and can be seen in MANY films because of its close proximity to Hollywood.
