Another year and another postcard received from the distant land of Talamhir, on which were inscribed both the greetings of the season and another traditional song, a Harvest Harkening.
"A fecund and prosperous Harvest to you, our friend. With the warmth of autumn, from the hearth of the Eyvor family where we are enjoying these five days of celebration. Sincerely, Miso & Lucca"
The Five Days of Harvest
A cumulative song and memory-and-forfeits game, as such the lyrics may vary among locales.
The weather’s turning cold, my dears,
Pray shut the shutters tight.
The light is changing too, my dears:
Day swiftly turns to night.
So gather in the harvest,
And gather ‘round the hearth,
And we shall all make merry,
And food and drink pour forth!
And what shall we be sharing,
What celebrate the year?
What brings us close together?
Just listen and you’ll hear:
First day, on the first day of Harvest,
We proudly offer up our
Labour's results to share:
A printed book with ink still damp,
A bright prismatic glowstone lamp,
And bottles of the season’s wine,
The largest pumpkin from the vine,
And to the winners we bequeath
A satisfying basil wreath.
Second, the second day of Harvest,
We proudly offer up our
Talent's results to share:
A song that's sweet with music new,
A dance that's fun for all to do
Performances of drama, art,
A morys dance to evening start
And to the winners we bequeath
A brightly-fragrant minty wreath.
Third day, on the third day of Harvest,
We proudly offer up our
Worthy results to share:
An ancient cup of beaten gold
And any other thing that’s old
The oldest worker in the mill,
Well-worn tools that use we still,
And to the winners we bequeath
A dignified lavender wreath.
Fourth day, on the fourth day of Harvest,
We proudly join together
Concord and joy to share:
A day to gather with our friends
And family dear as daylight ends,
The feasting, toasting, fêting done,
The year’s tasks finished, all but one:
Join hands all, goodwill to enhance
In circle-looping candle dance
Fifth day, on the fifth day of Harvest,
We bring together all three
Laurel'd their lauds to share:
Successes old we gather here,
With hopes and cheers to the new year,
Parade them all throughout the town,
Each guild and brotherhood’s renown.
And to the winners we bequeath
A multicolored flower wreath.
