From Failure to Success (Comm)
Commission for
Silva (as a child and as an adult).
This is one of the those things that took me longer than usual to draw, but it was very interesting! I really liked the character and it was definitely a pleasure to work with the author.
And I'm especially glad they wrote a backstory for this piece, which I'll copy here, but you can also read it in the description of the same piece in the character's author gallery!
"Failure is the foundation of success.
Understanding an unfamiliar process requires theory, but also a lot of practice.
And while written words are a great help in this, ultimately only direct experience allows the body to absorb a method and make it its own.
Simply put, only those who have the courage to try again and again ultimately succeed.
And the sum of all those dead ends, like so many random lines intertwined, ultimately leads to the appreciable painting that is mastery of technique.
Taken from her loved ones at a tender age, the little vixen, whose emerald eyes had onlyrecently begun to peer out over the world, had little with her when she crossed the threshold castle della Verbena.
Aside from her modest clothes and a keen curiosity, she seemed to have very few strings to her bow.
Yet someone had seen in her a great latent power, which simply needed to be honed and channeled in the right direction.
Unlike Borgon, Silva Vernalis had the gift to memorize the information contained in the dusty tomes of the library with great speed, and her innate fascination with the unknown transformed the study of formulas into a pleasant delight.
But there was more. Hidden in the darkest corner of her soul, hidden from most, was a profound burden.
The regret of not having been able to do anything for her village, for her loved ones, and the desire to never again find herself powerless in the face of evil. To never be useless again.
And so the little vixen set to work.
And she failed, and failed, and failed again, until someday she started to succeed.
Never satisfied with her small successes, and always striving to improve, she soon turned into one of the wisest and most capable enchantresses Valmeridia had ever known.
With both white and dark magic as her powerful allies, she's now able to not only safeguard her own safety, but also that of those she holds dear.
Along with her friends and her trusted prince, she defends castle della Verbena and Valmeridia from threats that dare disturb their peace, so that no cub will ever have to give up their childhood to follow her path.
And from the moment she realized that she wasn't her thoughts, is when her spiritual awakening truly began..."
