When Vandaryn isn't turning big wrenches and monitoring big power systems, he's turning small wrenches and playing with low-power electronics. As a child, Vandaryn enjoyed tinkering with broken electronics and scrapping things together. This little passion carried into his adult life as well, even though his job is largely the same.
In inking, there's a tongue-in-cheek adage when composing a scene: "When in doubt, black it out". Highly contrasted spot-blacks really make a scene pop and help add dimension to things, and despite reading this time and time again, I never could quite bring myself to just splat all over everything. So, this piece was my excuse to kick myself in the rear and try it! I certainly made some mistakes, like forgetting where my light's coming from, busying up his mane too much, and even leaving pencil strokes in, but I had a blast. Next on the art supply shopping list are some brushes to compliment my nibs.
