A wealthy girl from Unova, her parents are Wall Street shareholders in Castelia City with a lot of money, and she doesn't need to work or study. She just rents an apartment while her mother gives her enough money each month for rent and, above all, to eat whatever she wants.
She joined the project because, ironically, her parents wouldn't have to take care of her anymore. In fact, the Pokeplanet Project is generating profits from the extraction of resources in space, which is making the project's shareholders richer. So they offered their carefree daughter as part of the project in exchange for keeping the profits she generates. A win-win!
