Something I tried to render in charcoal. While I was doing this, I recalled all the thousands of reasons I detest charcoal.
Also, when I was scanning this in, my scanner decided to make it SUPER CONTRASTY AND DRAMATIC! >:I
So enjoy this needlessly dramatic picture.

charcoal, it fights you. Better for large-scale, as it looses some of it's inefficiencies from a distance. The level of darkness over the right shoulder, I would carry up and around the side of the face, leaving a light halo of light around it. Either that, or cut this character out with a clean edge and place them onto something more flat and graphic, that could took really cool. Either way, you got some cool oldguyface outta this
Yeah. Charcoal and I have been mortal enemies, mostly because I do tend to work small and I like making fine, sharp points in my work. This is pretty much the exact opposite as to how charcoal works. Those would be pretty damn cool. I might try to cut it out and place it on a more graphic surface, if I remember to do so.
Thanks.
Thanks.
