For that printmaking class I had a while ago, we had to do woodblock prints. I did mine based off of Joseph Merrick (aka. The Elephant Man). This was the planning out sketch I did in my sketchbook. I just kind liked it so I scanned it in and played around with Photoshop textures on it.
He was a really fascinating figure in history and also someone who I kind of admire in a way. Accounts of the Elephant Man described him as a rather intelligent and kind individual who never complained about his affliction or let his deformities turn him into a bitter individual.
I may post the actual woodblock prints when I get around to it.
Also, as just a note of personal interest, this webpage has a picture of a computer-generated image that shows what the Elephant Man would have most likely looked like if he was not deformed- http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_relea.....-ada071803.php

very nice. I recently watched a program where they preformed a sort of autopsy since his skeleton is on display. Turns out he died simply trying to lie down like a normal person since he had to sleep curled up with his head resting on his knees. When he leaned back, the weight of his head snapped his own spin. Such a sad end for a lovely man.
