Here, I used Hero Forge to create the Greek goddess Nemesis as an anthropomorphic griffin. Armed with her sword, she is ready to carry out her divine task. In Greek mythology, Nemesis is the goddess of righteous anger and balancing justice, which made her a deity of vengeance.
Mythology (as I know it)
Nemesis is a daughter of Nyx ("Night"), either born of her alone or the daughter of Nyx and Erebus ("Darkness"), or daughter of Oceanus.
The main task of the goddess Nemesis is to exercise righteous anger and create balancing justice, especially through the punishment of human hubris (arrogance) and inappropriate behavior. She ensures that the balance between excess and deficiency is restored and punishes those who acquire too much luck or power.
One of the most famous stories in which Nemesis played a prominent role was that she punished the beautiful but arrogant Narcissus for hurting the nymph Echo (who was cursed by Hera to repeat the last words spoken to her) with his ruthlessness, just as he had hurt others.
Nemesis cursed Narcissus to fall in love with his own reflection in the water. Narcissus lingered before the water until he died and became a flower.
There is also a version that tells that Nemesis was the mother of Helen of Troy. Zeus once desired her, but she did not want him. She took various animal forms to escape him. When she transformed into a swan, Zeus also transformed into one and mated with her against her will. Nemesis then laid a large swan egg, from which Helen eventually hatched and was adopted by Leda, Queen of Sparta. The very same beautiful Helen, who was abducted by Paris, the prince of Troy, and who subsequently sparked the Trojan War.
Nemesis also bore the children Aether and Hemera, the personified air and day, respectively, whom she conceived with her father Erebus (incest is not uncommon among gods).
In the late 20th century, the influence of popular culture led to a shift in meaning, taking the term to mean an eternal adversary, an archrival, a kind of personal angel of death, a mortal enemy, a non-personified bringer of death, or a deadly threat. The phrase "I am your nemesis" is interpreted as "I am your downfall" instead of "You get what you deserve."
