More Than Meets The Eye: Steeljaw
Following up that other pic. So, people here may or may not know that I'm a Transfan of moderate capacity. It probably would've been the first fandom I'd joined if it weren't for the furry fandom (since when Transformers were cool, there was no real internet, and it took awhile before I realized how many adult collectors there were now).
As you can guess by my age, I'm fairly hardcore for G1. I liked cars when I was a kid, so something that was a car AND another toy in one was a bonus. Plus I always like the puzzle nature of figuring them out, and the snaps and clicks of getting all the pieces properly.
Ironically, the only lines I wasn't into were Beast Wars and Beast Machines, mainly because so many of the toys didn't truly transform very much. "Stand up and swap heads" doesn't count to me.
I only keep a select few on my shelves now, but I keep on top of the toylines via forums and all just to see if there's anything interesting. Binaltech was of course a godsend to me.
At any rate, here's basically a robotic version of Cody. Let's say he's codenamed "Steeljaw" (been used before, but not overused). Cody does drive a black full-sized pickup, it just never made it into the comic; I can assure you that even in ultra-trendy Los Angeles, big guys still like large trucks just because they'll fit in 'em, so it's not just a rednecky thing. I rather like how the transformation sequence (100% made up, surprised nobody's used it yet) gave him a bulky upper body. Given Cody's martial arts background I assumed he didn't need a gun, but the shoulder cannons seemed appropriate. I kinda wished I'd made the pelvis/thighs army green, since that would emulate the coloration of Cody's typical outfit (black shirt/boots and camo pants) but it just looked silly. I DID cheat and suggest a few stripe patterns on him though...
For some reason I had a heck of a time drawing the truck--the perspective makes it look less-trucklike than I wanted. The silver bumper and off-road dirt really helped, though.

Oddly, I found the Transformers fandom first. And you're making me all nostalgic for usenet newsgroups. The plain text interface was great for discussion, unlike these slow, clunky web-based forums (fora?) with all their formatting and fancy images. (This is where I'm supposed to tell those kids to get off my lawn, isn't it?)
Beast Wars is what got me back into the fandom, but I can see how the toy designs could get old. Beast Machines nearly killed my love of Transformers because the story and characterization were rotten. The only reason I bothered to watch was BM Cheetor's barrel-chested design.
Excluding Armada, the modern vehicle Transformers have been great, and Armada's biggest problem was poor execution of the Minicon gimmick.
This design has a Trailbreaker-like feel. And I don't recall many car/truck Transformers with the windshield pointing up in robot mode.
I kind of like colors you used for the pelvis and thighs, but that could just be my filthy mind realizing that they match Cody's fur pattern, which implies that the tiger equivalent would be pantsless.

Definitely Trailbreaker; although trademark issues forced his name to be changed to Trailcitter forr the classics/generations/reveal the shield version, and they all have windshield's that point forward in robot mode.

I remember those. Honestly I don't mind those, they would've been better to read at work XD
Beast Wars had a great show, but yeah...not surprisingly, the few I bought were mostly Transmetals
Barrel chest, but not big enough arms. Cody will mock Cheetor's chicken legs XD XD XD XD
I think I enjoyed Energon most of the modern lines (sucker for combiners)...outside of Classics/Generations and Binaltech, which I'm too biased towards XD
Yeah, honestly I wouldn't mind submitting this to Hasbro as a Generations deluxe-sixed Trailbr--cutter
 Well, I could geek out here but I'll just submit the afore-mentioned Pointblank. I think Crosshairs too. I know a number of Micromasters but srsly, do those count?
I noticed that about the pantslessness >.> Or maybe he's just got on white briefs ;-p

They were better to read in most places.
The Transmetals were my faovrites.
He definitely needed bigger arms. (Who doesn't?)
Mock away. He does have scrawny legs. So does BM Cheetor.
Combiners are always fun, especially if the limbs can be rearranged.
I said that there weren't many, not that they didn't exist. And Micromasters count a little, I guess.
But you've already established that Cody doesn't wear briefs.

Even without Primal to help, Cody wouldn't be laughing long; knowing Cheetor, he'd probably rise to the bait(real or imagined) and refuse to back off until it turned into a fight, which I sincerely doubt Cody would win on his own.
The reasoning for this is simple; Cheetor is built for speed. It's the reason his limbs are so thin; they're designed for maximum aerodynamics. And unlike flesh-and-blood cheetahs, he has the fuel-efficiency to keep up his speed over long periods of time. This also aids in his combat capabilities; the sheer velocity that he can put behind his attacks, compensates for the relative lack of brute strength.
He also has such perception, reflexes, and agility as to be able to run at mach 2 without colliding into anything if he doesn't want to, which as a secondary effect makes it near impossible to hit him if he expects it, and since Cheetor started this hypothetical fight, he'd know to expect anything from Cody.
In short: you can't beat what you can't hit.

No. Nothing at all
Grumble. Okay, so I was going to point out that it's a common convention to match things on the toys, but the VERY FIRST example picked proves me wrong. Srsly.

Okay, okay, so it happens sometimes. Still, he has other details like the toes and spoiler and gun so the overall color scheme loops more unified.

It is a bit sad he can't be fluffy any more, but otherwise this is brilliant, especially the hood and windshield mimicking Cody's blocky massive chest. I can see why the truck bothers you, but even at that angle I could tell it was a truck, so don't feel too bad.
The only thing I regret, for both of these pics but especially this one since you came up with it 100% on your own, is not being able to see the full TF directions since Codybot is blocking some of them.
The camo pants would have been funny, but Exatron is right, the implication of naked tiger is even better. :P Also, he reminds me of the Forrest mascot in an interesting twist.

Yeah, though it's getting kinda close to beergut territory XD
I still have the directions somewhere. Even still, they're purposely as unhelpful as the ones they have now are, with the strictly 2D vector-drawn lineart. XD Lotsa "wait, what?" bits.
Heh, yanno, the mascot transformation was supposed to be a surprise, so I purposely did not try to make it too Transformerlike. I do wonder what it'd look like in this style. Hmmm...

Cody can just consider that a warning about the future, so he doesn't let himself go. :P
LOL! I remember getting so frustrated with the directions for a number of the Transformers. There were times I wanted to throw the robots, or rip up the paper. And I didn't know if the directions were just that bad or I was that clueless. Still, even with your directions being unhelpful, would be cool to see the poses and how well you mimicked the typical TF sequence.
Heh, did I just give you inspiration?

Hardcore G1 myself Vince
There's a trend with all the classic toons of the 1980s being remade like Thundercats, He-Man, and even My-Lil-Pony. Transformers however has been remade and relaunched lord knows how many times...proving how popular a toyline "primed" for lil boys can me!
Cody as a transformer invokes images of old Trailbreaker to me, was that intended?
Think you'd be up to drawing ME as a transformer sometime?

Yep! Not many other current toylines have been going continuously for...I think all but two years since 1994.
Yeah, a slight Trailbreakery vibe. I did come up with a more complex, blatant Trailbreaker lookalike when Alternators were running...
Not sure how many more of these I'll be doing ;-p
