The follow-up to the first part of this ( https://www.furaffinity.net/view/62196937/ ) where I said I'd show off an art bag I keep. I took the pic last night but it was late so I'm doing this the next day /<3<\
I will note I don't take out everything at once like this when I do make use of this bag, the idea is actually more the opposite. I got the idea to put this together from a vid I saw of someone assembling what they called an art cart to more easily move a good amount of art supplies around their home and to more easily pick up and use things, using a three-tier cart with wheels to do that. I liked the idea but being 4'10" and having stairs to navigate made it not a practical option (those three-tier carts are over half my height and I'm horrendously clumsy). My solution was getting this cheapo bag for carrying around baby supplies to fill up with art stuff, it works much better for me and is a lot easier to carry around. I generally prefer to draw in my room, but this bag saves me having to rifle through my stuff to pick out things to use, and I can just move this bag between my desk, bed and more rarely the living room or outside. As I use things up the rotation will inevitably change around but here's what's in it as of now.
Starting left again is the aforementioned bag, I just bought it from Amazon but really any bag like this would do the job, I'm just a sucker for black and red. Inside still is a greyscale colour wheel I have to refresh my memory of values without having to check the internet. More standard colour wheel seen below also to help me remember colour theory without internet, I don't really remember where I got either from but they're useful to have to hand.
Propped up on the bag is my small tin of Caran Dache Pablo pencils (CD don't make their tins more distinct than this, I'm gonna be slapping labels on them to specify them at some point + some stickers to decorate). The Chromaflows I showed in the prior pic also tend to live in this bag and I use both together as I said, the Chromaflows are kinda the UK answer to Prismacolour for a soft-core pencil since Prismas are more expensive to import from the States unless you get a good deal on them (like I did). The Pablos are more right in the middle as pencils go, they can lay down colour very well while keeping a point better, I do like them a lot too. (art sample https://www.furaffinity.net/view/61841014/ )
Roll of cheap brushes also from Amazon to use with my paints here + a palette knife it just comes with. I don't like to spend a lot of money on brushes, if I could try out an expensive brush free maybe I'd change my mind but otherwise I'm not spending the money I spent on these brushes (about Β£15) on a single brush (some brushes cost as much as some full sets of pencils I've bought, that's where I draw a firm line).
Next to them is some travel cups for painting with, they push out to give you more space for water while letting you store them more compact which is handy for this bag, I have two so I can keep clean water in one. Inside them is an extra black eraser for using with toned paper (I learned white erasers can erase the colour of toned paper but I've had this eraser for years by chance) + a t'gaal sharpener I got cause of a lot of Reddit folks recommending them, it feels kinda flimsy to me but it can sharpen to 5 different points so it's still a good fit for this bag.
Paints and stuff next, still got my first tin of watercolours after this many years. They're student grade but pretty good for what you get (I also have a professional quality tin I picked out my own colours for), above that is Caran Dache gouache which is also student grade, not the best gouache but does the job. Sitting under those is a stay-wet palette for the gouache, I got it because the small size worked better for this bag but making one yourself would be doable too, I'm just too lazy for that.
Small tin of CD Neocolor ii's next to them that I bought to try out. Took a while for me to find the joy in using them cause I kept using them on paper that was way too textured for them but I like them now, excellent little extra to pair with watercolour art with them being water-soluble crayons and all.
Got a lot of different kinds of paper here so I'll try and compact that down to a list
- Seawhite of Brighton square sketchbook (the fuzzy blue one), also one on my priority list of sketchbooks to use up cause it's so old it's starting to get foxing on it, but I'm not going to let that stop me from using it anyway.
- Black paper pad + cartridge paper wedged in there to keep my heavy-handedness from scoring the paper underneath. I love drawing on black paper, it's a really fun and interesting challenge that opens up ideas for different things to try drawing, it's also just fun to throw my colouring pencils at it for doodling. (art sample https://www.furaffinity.net/view/62113767/ )
- Canson XL mixed media paper I've had for a long time, I've used a good bit of this with various mediums but these days it gets the most use with acrylic, gouache or oil pastels. It's a very textured paper and I like what it lends to my pieces, some might not. (art sample https://www.furaffinity.net/view/61105403/ )
- Faber Castell mixed media paper, similar reasons to above for using it but it's less heavily textured so better for using most of the stuff in this bag, I've also been using it to smear leftover acrylic paint onto to tone the surface. (art sample https://www.furaffinity.net/view/59956717/ )
- Cheapo Zieler watercolour paper, only used it a little bit but there's only a few pages in it so I'm intending to use it up on quick practice paintings
- Brown paper sketchbook, I decorated it myself with stickers and colouring pencils but otherwise I haven't really started on it yet, eager to do that at some point.
- HahnemΓΌhle bookmark paper, I've only used this to make watercolour swatches so far cause of it being conveniently cut to size for it, but I'm also gonna try actually making stuff with it to use it up.
- Another mixed media pad from Clairefontaine plus a tiny sketchbook, both unused yet but there if I need them (the tiny sketchbook I got for making much scrappier art in, would also make a good flipbook if I had the time or patience)
Another Caran Dache tin, full set of Neocolor i's (crayons but non water-soluble) my bf got me for my birthday recently, they're super fun to use in my sketchbooks and work better for that kind of use than oil pastels which are a bit too smudgy without making efforts to prevent it. (art sample here https://www.furaffinity.net/view/61935293/ )
Big ol' box of Cray-Pas for my oil pastel needs, I have a much heftier collection of oil pastels in a storage box all divided up by colour family but I keep these in their box for quick and easy access, these aren't my favourite ones but they're good enough for use in this bag (if you're interested in trying out oil pastels I'd recommend these, they're amazing for the price and my personal favourite https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mungyo-Gal...../dp/B0851V6447 ).
The bits of plastic are just for sliding under paper when I'm painting, I just found them around the house and kept them for the purpose, not much else to say about them but they're part of the kit.
Also added on a photo of the kit all together to show what that looks like, I do also tend to drop my pencil case in on top since it fits in the bit of space left, my current sketchbook from the previous pic can also squeeze in.
