Tera - Original Concept - Head/Face (2019)
Identity eluded Tera's grasp for quite some time as he struggled to pin down something solid. When presented with the innumerable possibilities to change himself, the creeping freeze of choice paralysis began to seep in to his everything with its insidious chill.
But then the warmth of recognizing he was free to change things as he saw fit pushed back that icy grip. It's not like he couldn't tweak and modify as he went. No one truly knows who and what they are from the start, after all. Why would it be different in this case? No one said he had to decide immediately upon what he looked like and that it would be this way forever.
Moreover, there was no one to stop him from doing whatever he wanted besides. Who was going to judge him for flipping between scales or fur? Or multiple eyes? Or any eyes at all?
He wasn't just a man anymore--he could be anything.
As he looked over the screen at the visage of the creature he created, he gave a nod of satisfaction.
His benchmark for what was acceptable was simple enough, after all.
"Yeah, that's pretty good for a start. I'd make out with him."

When taking the time to design and sketch out ideas for Tera's face, I knew I wanted to make something that didn't exactly have a species analog. While a somewhat uncommon choice in the fandom, I felt it necessary to be able to just do 'whatever' when it came to putting this monster of a man together.
Thankfully for me
tkc2021 was on the save wavelength I was when I pitched the original idea. He knew the character it was based on--and had drawn him several times. So when I explained what I was after, he jumped on the opportunity to help bring him to life.
As such, this is the first facial reference of Tera that was made back in 2019. And while there would be many changes done over the course of years--details refined and quirks decided upon--you can very clearly see the solid base of his facial structure, shapes, and most importantly 'vibe' of his character.
But the one thing we agreed upon, first and foremost: this man needed to be incredibly smoochable.
