So I have been trying to figure out drawing. I've worked at it for a couple of weeks off and on now, and I am starting to feel like I have at least something of a grasp of what I am doing.
This is something I did today for practice. The character and pose are very much property of
gideon and I am in no way claiming this as a wholly original work.
This is my attempt at reproducing the original Cox at an airport simply using the real thing as a reference. This is not tracing, but going step by step from stick figure sketch on up. Please go easy on me, as I've only been at this since the beginning of July.
I'm a huge fan of Gideon's art and this is absolutely an homage as much as art practice for me. Cox and his pose again are 100% property of
gideon and I am in no way challenging that. Please don't hurt me.

A couple of tips.
1) Use thinner lines, or a sharper pencil, and then both.
2) when you're doing stuff like this, don't just draw what you think you see. draw what you see.. it sounds obvious, but for the..ahem..creases in the pants, it's evident you've not done that. naughty girl. I'm not saying copy every little flick of fur and stuff, but you know what I'm getting at..
3) Don't just try to recreate the picture, recreate the lines. this is all sounding retardedly zen. but if you've seen modelsheets they use at disney for drawing characters, there are instructions for which direction to draw the lines from, for a reason. It's easier to get a line's shape going in a certain direction, but it also makes it flow more naturally. It improves the recreation of the picture and it improves your technique too. don't just inch the pencil along, keep lines constant when you can.
4) don't just draw furry porn, practice life drawings of real people, and cars, and buildings or whatever.. because I garantee a days going to come along when you wanna draw an awesome space marine or something and you can't because you've spent 7 years only drawing boobs.
that said, good start, keep it up, I look forward for the day to come along when I fave one of your pictures. :)

Yuh. Last thing first - I'm not just drawing furry stuff. I've spent the vast majority of my practice time working on trying to figure out how to draw people - faces especially. When I'm twiddling with furry stuff, it's because it's an interest and part of my motivation for wanting to learn so it's a fun thing to experiment with. And obviously, furry stuff is pertinent here and a sheet of human dudes making weird faces, not so much.
There's some things I kinda threw onto it as after-thoughts that really don't look good. You can see pretty clearly where I was really focusing. And of course, there's a million issues with anatomy, lines being crooked, and all of that kind of stuff that's the sign of how very new to this I am. Really, I feel a huge sense of accomplishment just based on the fact that you can at least tell what I was trying for instead of going "Is... that a llama hang-gliding?"
Thanks for the tips. :)

!! An Ixload.
Do not be so afraid of uploading. There are people who are genuinely curious about how you are doing with your art-levelling up and yuh, this shows that you're getting a bit more confident with things.
If anything, you should keep it up! Draw more things and upload them, that way, when things are all good, you can look back and trace your own little developmental route, seein' how you've done over the weeks. Draw more things! Upload them!
Is an order.

I like the job you did on the left hand, actually. It's got a really natural look to it, and the pose isn't really an easy one. The bulge in the pants, too, actually, is one of the harder things to do properly. Making it look like things are inside of other things is /very/ difficult. Definitely hope to see more, cause you're coming along nicely!
