You rarely see vintage homes still sporting their original colors and siding here. Tastes changed and people had the money to change with them. Not so in this deed restricted community. Harvest Gold, Powder Blue. Whatever that shade of green is called. Since metal siding lasts forever there has never been a need to replace it.
This is a form of Colonial Revival, a style rooted in America's founding, and still the most commonly used style in residential construction. Builders in the 1980s though, put their own blocky and restrained spin on the style.
Not the type of architecture you'll see mentioned in books. These were basic practical homes built in the tens of thousands for cold war era middle class families.

"Since metal siding lasts forever there has never been a need to replace it."
Heh. I've been doing some consulting for a partnership that buys, restores and leases out properties. They have several buildings and recently a two-family fell into their laps. Yes, the aluminum siding lasts forever. Unfortunately, the previous owner had one or more tenants who hung a basketball hoop on the house. The color can't be matched and it's 50 ugly years old, anyway. The dented siding will be replaced; the roof, too, before they rent it out again.
