A protogen invites a wish-dragon to test a new weapon...
[Very Short Read]
“You wanted to take that thing into the simulacrum?”
The wish-dragon appeared a little hesitant at the protogen’s suggestion – a testing of a very technologically-enhanced dagger, curved and marked with the patterns of circuitry.
“Yeah! I wanted to see how it performed in live-action!” chirped the protogen.
There is a huff of disbelief from the dragon, followed by an amused smirk from the protogen.
“It’s designed for anti-cybernetics in mind, but I added some organic functionality to it as well!”
Arcua shakes their head, fin wobbling slightly as they do. They respond submittingly,
“I… well… I still owe you after you fixed my tablet… alright, then.”
The dragon reluctantly follows the protogen into a specialized room in the weapons tech lab: a simulated environment to develop advanced weaponry. Arcua steps into a sort of cryo-pod, placing the simulating device over their head, while the protogen simply attaches a cable to the side of her visor.
In a moment, they both find themselves placed on opposite ends of a spherical blue chamber, a generic arsenal of martial weapons placed on either end. The protogen holds her dagger at the ready, awaiting Arcua’s choice of a weapon. The dragon deliberates only for a brief moment, before choosing a glaive, whirling it about themselves and stepping up to the circles imprinted on the ground. After a countdown projection in the center of the arena, the other features disappear, and the circular arena is only left with the two fighters and their weapons.
Arcua holds their ground, gripping tightly to the shaft of the polearm and pointing its sloped blade at the protogen, who looms just beyond the thrusting range of the glaive. The protogen analyzes the dragon’s movements through their visor, tracking muscle contractions and estimated attack patterns. Suddenly, Arcua swings their glaive forward, initially missing the protogen’s arm, but moves their body forward and swirls the glaive from overhead. The protogen barely raises their dagger and guards the attack in time, bracing the flat edge on her arm. Arcua retracts the weapon, then thrusts at the protogen, who dodges the attack by sliding under it, and slips the blade behind the dragon’s ankle. Arcua shrieks and topples forward, feeling their leg start tensing up involuntarily.
“Agh! What… what did you do with that blade?”
An inspection of their leg reveals very little cutting on the simulated fur, but Arcua feels the vivid sensation of residual electricity worming through. The protogen stands above the helpless dragon, watching the effects of her blade in action.
“It imparts a small electric charge! It avoids a lot of physical damage, but effectively disables an opponent with little risk! It also avoids the problems of larger charges and adverse health effects from that!”
Arcua sighs, lifting trying to lift themselves by their simulated glaive.
“I hate electric shocks, and you know this!”
The protogen shrugs, “That’s why I didn’t tell you!”
